D.Williams - Defence is as bad as Eric Grothe's. How hard is it to mark your own man?!
Matai - Good strong runner. Good solid tackles when oppostion is running at him but cant handle quick and/or strong attacking opposing players like Inglis and Slater that can run around him. Gets caught out to his outside. Why they dont make him a forward?!
Lyon - shouldnt have played the game. Never a 5/8. Can run but bad decison making and passing game.
Orford - never been a fan. Shocking decisions. Attacking kicks arent consistent enough. And so what if he can put a few big hits on bigger men! His tackle misses and misreads are too costly!
G.Stewart - tries hard but is pretty predictable in attack. ie draw and pass.
Bailey - I see him as a very slow 5/8, so hes no good. hes not strong enough to be on the team with his go-forward or for his try scoring/assist, or his defence alone. So should be left out even though he isnt bad in any one category.
Kite - Played better this game than most game this year.
Perry - Shocker of a game.
Ballin- Not really an attacking hooker like LeStrange and Smith etc. Solid in defence but we need one that can attack.
Foran - should start as 5/8. Consistently runs onto the ball and backs up.
Cuthbo - Looks dangerous in attack. Keep him on interchange if we still alive next week.
JWH - Wasnt a fan before of his from his dropped balls etc but had a good strong game.
Summary - Gus always gets it right with his analysis. Manly dont lack intensity esp in the first half. They were on top of the Storm in stages of the 1st half, but look like a headless chook on 5th tackle, ruining the set and releasing the pressure. The blame must rest on the playmakers ie. Orford and Hasler. When Orford runs to the line and shows the ball, the outside backs will follow and the defence will be in 2 minds with little time to react to a quick pass or dummy. When Orford runs sideways, the opposition waits till he makes a decision and has time to react as he's still 10m from them.
Has Hasler been telling Orford and the outside backs how to attack?!
Orford has predictable attack :
1. Crossfield bomb/chip/grubber
2. reverse kick towards posts for Stewart
3. Big man short/decoy with Stewart out back deep/sweeping
Manly dont have a form problem. They've got fundamental problems that they've had all year. Manly with all their talent should be in a golden period like the Storm the last few years. Its embarassing how Melb losing so many good players is still better than a Manly side that should be heading up, not down after one year. They shouldnt be in a rebuilding phase just after one year from winning the premeirship! Somehow I think that another good coach can help this team perform better than they have been this year...
