KURT Mann scored a try against his former club Melbourne, his fourth in three games back in the NRL.Now coach Paul McGregor must consider if it’s enough to push Mann into the centres and force former Bulldogs player Tim Lafai out.
Mann started the NRL season at fullback, but was dropped after two error-riddling efforts.
His second chance arrived when Josh Dugan underwent elbow surgery.
But with Dugan poised to return against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, Jason Nightingale will switch back to the wing, which will squeeze either Mann or Lafai out. Mann played in the centres with Melbourne last season. It will be a crucial choice in McGregor’s push for finals action.
“We need to build now, we should have a few players back, Frizell and Dugan,” McGregor said. “We really haven’t had our team on the field to be consistently at our best. You always like to be fixed in the top eight and not on the edge of the top eight, but we’re in the fight.”

Looks like there is no actual quotes in the article, hes just making the observation that someone has to drop this week.. KFFL or Lafai.. I dont think itll be Mann somehow.. to many positives.

Mann has really impressed on the wing. Fast, smart and can finish a try and although KFFL does not deserve to be dropped its going to be a hard choice but Mann has more potential.

KFFL has been very very plain. Mann has him covered easily and he's not even a genuine winger.

It should be KFFL to be dropped

Lafai has been OK in defence, and he played reasonably well in attack against Melbourne, but all in all I think he hasn't offered much. I say bring Mann into the centres and leave KFFL where he is, as he's been quite good.

Taane Milne has also been playing very well in the Cutters. I think ideally I would like the backline to be:
1. Dugan
2. Milne
3. Aitken
4. Mann
5. Nightingale

Lafai and KFFL are good cover for injuries.

That would be a pretty lethal backline and 1 I would love to see but I just cant see Mary ever picking this unless there is injury to KFFL and Lafai.

Lafai has been good but Aitken has been better. I would drop Lafai to cater for Mann in the centres if you had to drop 1 of them 2. KFFL has been good since he made the start up squad.

KFFL is just as good and faster than Mann. KFFl has scored 4 himself since elevation to NRL. Mann has scored a couple in recent weeks and particularly due to the work of Lafai in traffic on the weekend. BTW good catch by Kurt on the weekend ? for Melbourne wingers 1 st try. Now he is touted for the centres as 'pretty lethal'. If KFFL gets the flick For Mann then I for one disagree.

I definately think Mann has more Class about him as a player. I was critical of KFFL defensively and under kicks about a month ago but he has proved me wrong so far.

kFFL's defensive reads were suspect early on. Not so bad now. Mann is finishing off the tries others create, no bad thing, and seems to be working well with Lafai. I'd keep Mann - there seems to be more ability, and more improvement still possible. KFFL looks like he's as good as he's ever going to be in attack.

Exactly my thoughts....

Taane can't play wing and would be a huge liability for us, the best option if Lafai was to be dropped is Milne to centre with either KFFL/Mann as the other winger.

I hope he stays in the top grade. After a shocker start to the year, his last few games have been quite strong and his confidence appears to have returned.

Give him another go at fullback. Give him a go in the halves. One thing's for certain, our attack can't get any worse for trying it (can it?):sarcasm:

Even if it did, I could wear it better than I can wear sticking with the same formula getting the same results week in week out.

This.. Milne isnt agile enough imo to be our winger, physically he looks a lot like Matautai, very strong, pace is acceptable, got a good pass on him.. but he looks like an out and out right centre.. and Flo/Mann are rly solid choices anyway.

I probably would have had a different opinion 6 months ago, but after watching Aitken and Matautai make a mess of the 1st grade wing spot.. ive learnt my lesson about square pegs in round holes.

Note: Mann I think is the exception, hes lean, agile.. hes on of the players you can shove around between wing/centre/fullback/5-8th, although if we want him to actually master one of them.. we need to leave him there.

Agreed re Milne.

His best attributes are his fend, ability to bust tackles and flick pass. Much like Lafai. Neither would be great wing options.
