I see Milne as a strike weapon at centre. He has size and strength and good skills. He can create something out of nothing. He can also draw in numerous defenders and set up players inside and outside him.

Milne is a good attacking weapon and now that he had his first NRL try he may prove even more deadly. However, its his defense that is a big concern. Really poor technique which iscevident by the number of missed tackles marked against him.
Mann, though not as physically built like Milne, has skill in both attack and defense which is why he would be preferred IMO.
If we wanted to have a physical presence at centre then we are probably better off sticking with young Izaac Thompson who i think is bigger than Milne and just as talented he just lacks something (similar to Milne in a way). He scoref a hat trick last night one i believe he powered over 3 or so defenders.

Easy for big guys to shine in reggies and U/20's as they are playing against part timers and very often in the 20's smaller lads still developing.
Different kettle of fish when you get to NRL.
Smaller guys with prefect technique will often easily outpoint the bigger guys who didn't hone the essential skills and requirements.
No substitute for fitness, toughness and good technique.

I'm very sure if Mary sent Mann out to right centre with the same up and in game plan with instructions to run in and shut down opposition centres early, Mann would miss a similar amount of tackles and the same problem would be seen on our right edge. This is a hit and miss strategy. Spectacular when it comes off but very costly if it does not come off; especially if Dugan does not rush across and defend at the back on the right.

Didn't Harry Bath once say, ' a good bigger un is always better than a good little un'?

Something like that but I am talking about the lazy "big un" who should be better than he is but lacks the dedication to do so.
Slater is a classic example small guy came into grade early but worked his arse off every single day to get there and even after his injuries and lay off still has it in bucket loads and just showed Walter's the difference between the best FB in Qld and the 2nd best.
Should be wearing the No 1 for Qld next game or Walter's is as big an idiot as Daley and if so we have to hope like all hell neither finds their way here.

Sorry, I know he has utility value but Mann for mine gives the impression of being a skinny little runt. Better player than I'd ever be so no disrespect but given a choice, truly I'd rather Milne.

Going to tigers don't worry about him anymore

Milne as a right centre

Mann as a half or winger
I doubt Millward will sign Mann either. We have great junior depth in our outside backs, fullback and halves. I suggest all internal signings are completed and we are most pobably keeping the remainder of our cap to sign a prop to replace Paker.

Possm do you think they will let Mann go?

I don't necessarily agree with letting him go, given his utility value. But if they do, does that mean Field comes in to replace him as the utility? Would still leave us the headache of replacing Dugan - maybe Dufty?

Are you happy for the club to promote internally rather than going on the market to fill Milne/Mann?

Private Ryan: Bulldogs backrower in demand, Tigers sign Dragons centre Taane Milne

EXCLUSIVE: TIGERS LAND RED V GUN

Wests Tigers incredible recruitment drive under Ivan Cleary continues.

Private Ryan can reveal the joint venture has landed the signature of Taane Milne on a two-year-deal.

A centre with footwork and speed, Milne is a Fijian international with 12 first grade games to his name.

Competing with Tim Lafai for the left centre spot, Taane Milne’s club switch comes after Lafai was re-signed on a long-term deal by the Dragons last week.

Milne had unseated Lafai in the top grade last year, but the tables have turned in 2017.

Enter the Tigers, who have four outside backs off-contract this year.

The 22-year-old made his NRL debut for the Dragons last year after graduating from the Roosters’ NYC side.

Having added Chris McQueen, Russell Packer and Josh Reynolds to the squad, the Tigers have brought in some speed to their backline, with former Storm centre Mahe Fonua and now Milne on their 2018 roster.

I think they will let Mann go. After observing events this year, I'm certain Millward is pulling the strings and has a great influence on what Mary is doing. Mann was ignored mainly because he is not in Millward's future sqaud and niether was Milne, Packer or Dugan. I'm also sure a few more of the marginal first graders will be leaving at season's end. Places will be filled with our great juniors coming through.

I'm tipping Dufty to get first crack at fullback with Field as utility on the bench; no matter who is coach. This new structure suits the old boys club so well that it will never be disbanded, even for a top quality coach, unless there is a clean-out as a result of a WIN TV 51% buy in of wonership. I imagine the impass at the moment is the 51% and a clause to do with management changes.

Milnes defense is the reason he has not been able to cement a spot in first I would guess, as we all know how dangerous he looks with ball in hand. Regardless of who, if any, we keep, Aitken and Lafai will be our centers while Mary is in Charge. I can see Mann going to U.K next contract and probably winning MANN of steel there in the halves.

Milne. I would have Milne and Lafai as our centres this year and next. I can not find a permanent position for Mann and I think it would be unfair on him to keep him as a utility. He deserves the right to lock down a first grade position at another club.
Unfair on him? A position in a club which should be top 4 next year based on current form and signings to come in? Mann is way under rated by Dragons, the real Frank would have had him signed up for life by now.

I've come to the conclusion that it is not Milne, Aitken or Mann that miss-read the defence at right centre, it is Marys plan or instructions which are the problem. The game has changed since Mary played centre, even since Gasnier played right centre. My humble advice is that our right edge forward should stand a little wider and our lock should take a few steps to the right when defending the right side of the field. The problem alwasys seems to be that the right centre moves up quickly to shut off what he sees as a gaping hole or a lack of numbers on the right.
