New coach to buy 2 speedy wingers and Manu to play in reserve grade in the second row

He didn't have the foot down on the accelerator in his hit ups today in the second half. That led me to think he might have picked up a niggle during today's game.

First half made a good run only for it come undone by losing the ball. Second half was a gradual decline in performance till the very rock bottom at the end with the Tigers scoring. Probably more Katas fault but hey, might be time to retire.

I know that this is a touchy subject with 'fans' of the big guy. But I really believe the time has come to try something different and play wings with more agility.

For all of the positives that Manu brings to the team, there are just too many negatives.

His carries out of our own half lead the team to rely on him doing it too much. A lot of our forwards have become ineffective in the role themselves because they simply aren't performing that role often enough.

The biggest problem though, outside of the handling errors, of which he is hardly the only culprit, is the unfortunate reality that when other teams are in a contest with the Warriors, they know that by targeting Manu there is a reasonably good chance that they may get points down his side. He is way too easily exposed on defence.

He has been a great servant to the club. But it really is time for a change.

Isn't he playing till 37 or something?
But it is time to move on, the 26 rounds is to much.
As long as Mamaulo doesn't get first call on the wing spot.

And he is always getting the ball attacked by players when being tackled as they know refs have a preconceived notion that if the ball comes out, Manu just dropped it and they have a good chance of getting a scrum. Not a good thing to have hanging over a player

I absolutely love the bloke and what he's achieved at our club, but the time is right for him to go. I can't see how he goes into anything but further decline from here. And the forwards are not the place for him.

Yeah I red that too here on our forum. He plans to play to 37 years of age but he might be getting a little too ahead of himself. I wonder if he's been financially smart.

Maumalo sux.

I think he's cooked, in the last few weeks and especially today he just looks tired and out of ideas.

Great servant to the club, but he's not being set up for tries and still has those terrible hands and is a defensive nightmare. The only asset left is those hit ups, and in that case he's just another Ken.

"Star" wingers are overrated. It's more about the space and ball they get from the centres. Look at David Williams at Manly. He was a good finisher, that was about it. Manu's having to make his own play because we haven't had a settled centre combination. Sort the centre out and Manu'll look the goods again...

They way hes starting to breakdown I don't think he'll be playing til 37, maybe he should look at either heading to SL or mentoring in RG

He's a legend of the club and should be employed by us in some capacity. Something in the community would be perfect.

I believe his wing days are over and as a result its probably time to retire. The bloke has played 220 odd games and scored over 150 tries. Not many other players can lay claim to stats like that.

Also I think his decline has been accelerated due to the manner in which he plays, he never takes a half run, its always 110% with no footwork so he is getting smashed every hit up. That kind of impact can't be good for your joints/body in the long run.

Imagine what his record would be like with Lyon inside him

Hopefully he can start next season fit and injury free, then we'll see

He's had a shit year no doubt. Should be given an off season to recover and hopefully a new coach will tell him he's not guaranteed his spot and he rises to the challenge. And if he can't/won't do that then he should head to Europe for a retirement package.
