Robina isn’t out in the sticks. The stadium is just off the motorway and that entire area of Robina, Varisty Lakes and Mudgreeba is packed to the rafters.

The stadium is near to the train station. The light rail is slowly heading towards Burleigh and beyond. Buses will eventually interconnect all the light rail stops and run through the main back streets to the train stations and destination points ie CBus. The train station will eventually get expanded to the GC airport. It’s all in the pipeline.

The stadium isn’t far from Robina town center where you’ll find restaurants, bars etc.

The stadium was admittedly originally built before the area and infrastructure had been properly built up but now it’s actually perfectly positioned. Just took the area a little bit to catch up.
Somewhere in the cbd would’ve been way better

And the design is flat pack

Not saying it’s awful but could’ve been so much better

I would say somewhere in the mid 80s onwards it started to change slowly and more quickly in the 2000s. As most of the first generation of Asians in the area were not interested in rugby league as I assume it was a foreign sport to them, it has filtered down to subsequent generations (and please don't take this a being racist). You can probably say that for other cultures as well. Given the mass European migration since WW2, the number of Europeans who have played at NRL level I would say has been very low while for the NZ and South Pacific don't they make up nearly 50% of playing numbers these days. It's obviously a sport that they like and attracts them.

The second part of your question, I have no idea. Like alot of posters here only like rugby league and don't like any other sport, maybe some people are drawn to other sports whether it be soccer, afl, golf, tennis or whatever and don't like rugby league or sport in general. It's just part of life and is not wrong or right.
It was definitely probably from the late 70's, early 80's.

I was noticing it when I went to school in the 1990's.

Even in the Shire, when I was in Year 11 & 12 in 2001-02 my year was pretty much the most multicultural in the entire school.

CBD wouldn’t work. You need stadiums close to where local people live, not what’s considered a holiday spot.

So the stadium was chosen to be positioned in a location that had strong surrounding residential growth projections. Robina, Varisty Lakes, Mudgreeba, Reddy Ck, Mermaid Waters etc. Bond University directors also had a “say” in where the stadium was originally located.

If the stadium were to be built today, it would likely be located around Coomera or Helensvale. However those areas are just mirroring what Robina and Varisty Lakes already did 10-15 years ago.

Mate. Stop commenting on the GC geography, you have no clue.
Hint - the Gold Coast doesn't have a CBD !
Formally it does but nobody who lives there could tell you where it is ! Seriously.
People were saying Southport, then maybe Robina..
There's no central point! SP , Broadbeach ect .. don't let the towers fool you, these are mostly holiday lettings. The living working population isn't really on the beach, not much anyway.

Access would’ve been easier

Not like the current location is packing locals in

Loads games away fans outnumber locals

Are you saying access to “cbd” is easier? As in via Smith St gridlock? Or via Nerang past Broadbeach? Either way it isn’t easier, in fact Gold Coast highway has been a mess for almost a decade due to the light rail works. Now heavily impacting south to north,

Also the CBD isn’t really Surfers. That is for the most part the tourist heavy area; although I argue that Broadbeach has over taken it in recent years due to Casino, Pac Fair, better beaches, closer to CBus and Metricon, better hotels etc.

Gold Coast has different business districts through out and Southport & Broadbeach have as much business and commercial enterprises running out of there as Helensvale, Robina etc or Coolangatta etc.

The city is quite unique in how it’s structured and layered. The town planning is very much patchwork to suit the ever demanding growth, rather than a specific strategic lay out.

Far from a shithole, generally people who don’t know a thing about the area and only associate 1–2 known suburbs with it have such a narrow minded view.
They go to Surface and a couple of beach suburbs and think they know the Gold Coast. Most locals avoid Surface like New Yorkers avoid time square.

Stadium is hard to get to for away fans and locals

Was built in the middle of nowhere with poor access in an area which has an abundance of land

Youre saying twenty years after it was built it will start having good access

And no parking at the stadium

On top of the design flaws (any day game that eastern stand is boiling) and initial rent of 3 million pa

There’s a reason why Gold Coast crowds could be better and on field form is part of it

I’m not sure if Carrara is better located but at least the suns own the management rights to the stadium (receive naming rights and game day revenues)

That titans stadium has been a millstone around their neck

Im not a fan of out of town stadium eg Newcastle, brookvale

At least your nso is right in the cbd
