Melbourne v Brisbane live semi final next Friday night would be great.

Especially if it's shown live into Melbourne....it would have good ratings in the 3 biggest city's in Australia.

Am I reading it wrong or did the Live NRL game get 820,000 and the AFL 1million? Why are we happy about this? Of cource if they actually showed NRL in the three other major cities we would have creamed them.

What is good is that NRL in Perth (when live) outdraws AFL in Sydney!!

Somewhat surprising that Brisbane gave that many views to a game with 2 Sydney teams.

Which makes me wonder why there are no QLD teams on FTA this week.

.

haha, the afl live finals could only attract 50,000 viewers in sydney and 26,000 viewers in brisbane.

all the spin in the world can't help those figures.

Thats better than what the NRL got in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. (They combine to zero)

No they get listed separately, not sure why the AFL gets there delayed game included in the main figures, while the NRL's are broken up.

PR, f*ck dismal league hating cities like Adelaide. How about counting the REGIONALS as well. Morons like you forget that Australians live in many places, not just 5 locations. Regional viewers would guarantee that the Eels v Saints game flogged whatever AR game was shown last night. In NSW and QLD alone more people live in regional centres than in Sydney - and TWICE AS MANY AS ADELAIDE AND PERTH COMBINED.

But yeah, there are only 5 places in Australia.

Brisbane are playing Canberra this week. The Raiders have already had their quota of two televised games per season this year.

Like who..?

But your right, pity it seems that the networks don't even care how many people watch outside the cities.

The vast majority of that advertising is from local businesses on Regional TV. Having sat through hours and hours of tractor and rainwater tank adverts on my travels I know from experience!

The major corporates want their national product/company shown on National TV, hence why the capital city figures are ALWAYS viewed more importantly.

From a NRL point of view it is important as their fan base (ie people who turn up to games, buy memberships etc) are 99% in the city where the club is. 300,000 TV viewers in wup wup is nice but doesn't add much to the overall wealth of the NRL sadly.

It depends on what the Channels name the event. Channel 7 wasn't live in all cities last night, but gave the same titles to all broadcasts ie SEVEN'S AFL: ELIMINATION FINAL 1: ADELAIDE VS ESSENDON, so all audiences get attributed to it. Channel 9 was live into only Sydney and Brisbane (they called it "NINE'S LIVE FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL" and that's where the 820,000 figure comes from). Last night's NRL did go into Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth but the numbers were alot smaller so they don't get reported in top 20 lists. Hope this makes sense :)

Yeah, it suggests Channel 9 is doing it to make the ratings seems a touch smaller, and thus get the rights a little cheaper.

If what you are saying is true it is incredibly important - but we still outrate the self-anointed "national code" nationally.
