Mat Rogers... again

An interesting column by Mat Rogers in the Herald today.

Returning to rugby league "is a possibility but, despite what some people are suggesting, I have not been telling my old teammates that I will be rejoining the Sharks."

"What I can say for certain is that either I will be playing rugby or turning out for Cronulla. At this point I can't see myself considering any other options."
.....
"What makes it hard is that Dad doesn't really like rugby..... He wants me to be happy but I reckon he'd be happier if I was back at the Sharks."
....
"But to say I'm a certainty to go back to league would be a long way from the truth."
....
"Rugby is probably the way I'm leaning but there are several things I have to consider before I make my final decision. Probably the most difficult part of rugby is being away from home."
.....
"My son Jack is like my Dad. He is a little leaguie and he wants me to play league because that's the game he's participating in."
....
"Last week I wrote in my column that the ARU should sign Andrew Johns. Now if I didn't have a strong leaning towards rugby, I wouldn't be saying that."
....
"I'd like to have my future secure either way within two months."

Forget Treister, start the campaign to get Mat back! :D

The article was pretty blatant.

put it this way, if you were a union fan wishing to keep him, would you be confident after reading that ??

Fair point beeks.

Look at it this way: he's still under contract to the ARU. How happy would they be with him if he confirmed that he'd been telling his close mates that he'd be back at Cronulla next year? Let's not forget that he's still harbouring hopes of getting back onto the paddock before the end of the season.

Don't forget that Wendall decided League was the game for him... then a week later signed on with rugby!

I'm still not getting my hopes up. I am glad to see though that he is genuinely in two minds, whereas I thought last week he may really just be using us for negotiations.

Give him Stevos and Baileys money. Anything. Get him back. I'd take him back in a moment over our star lock

Give then man whatever he wants!!

C'mon "dad" talk to the boy!! He's now a duel international and played in a rugby world cup which is what he wanted isnt it?

Now all he needs is an NRL premiership with the Sharks and as mentioned earlier he can stay in the one country to acheive it. Not to mention he would be able to spend more time with his young family! ;-) :D

The choice seems simple to me [-o<

Sounds promising, yes, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet! I will believe it when I actually see it with my own eyes.

Also, gotta wonder whether injuries would get the better of him as they usually do....

I'd hate to see him leave at Peachey's expense. Peach is playing better this year than last.

Sure, Rogers would be a better fullback, when fit, but Peach has stuck around. Rogers fled (for whatever reason) and I'd hate to see a good club man be ditched for an injury-prone defector.

But I would sure love to see room for both of them

I'm sure Bailey's money would pay for him and hey presto - we have a 5/8.
Can pass. Can run. Can tackle. Can backup. And very importantly - CAN KICK

It would be great to have him back.. Not only as a 5/8 but also a Goalkicker.. The way Bailey is performing at the moment, i would be quite happy to see him come back at the expense of Bailey.. Imagine the backline -
1. Peachey
2. Merritt
3. Vagana
4. Franze/Kent/Saleh/McGoldrick
5. Rieck
6. Rogers
7. Kimmorley

Pretty good if you ask me.
