If mr sabermetrics knew anything about cricket he'd know that the number 8 spot faces very few balls in the shortened versions of the game. If your 8 is scoring runs you're more likely to be losing games rather than winning them.
Yeah, well if your bowlers are getting out for not making runs and not scoring them, you then have less runs to try and win with. If you bat deep, losing early wickets and 6 wickets all up does not put an end to the contest reasonably. Batting deep enables the top order to strike faster and chance their arm and risk losing their wicket for a bigger team total.
There's a whole host of counter arguments here.
But I stated it in an odi context, not T20. Twiz wants to bring it into t20, so be it. I think the value is higher in 50 over odi than in t20 but it is the same concept. But lets not pretend that the last World T20 final was not a major selling point for an all rounder at 8 nor that Straya had Faulkner smashing runs at 8 in limited overs formats previously as the 'Finisher'. Heck Braithwaite was at 8 with the keeper at 9, that is how stacked the WI were with allrounders.
