Very true. I used to love the days when Simpson and Kennedy were playing out wide,
running on to the ball hard and creating havoc.
And more recently Scott and Smith would be out on our right.
I reckon Brown wants the centres to hold their own hence his desire for a 'tall outside back' and currently playing Wardle there. We still get fwds out wide but not as prominent.

Yeah he's got a niggle.

Surely gagai goes back to centre and Elliot back to fullback or Ross to centre and Elliot to wing.

Not that any of those positional changes will matter in the slightest.

Wasn't Brown one of the first coaches who went for the big centres in Gaz and Cooper way back at the Dragons? Perhaps that's what he is looking for here?

No such thing as a "Big" centre these days. Even wingers are up over the 100kg mark now

Yeah - the likes of a Kerry Boustead and Chicka Ferguson would never even make it through the junior system nowadays....

Although, I vividly remember coming across Eric Grothe Snr in his heyday in a short sleeved business shirt (god knows where he found one to fit) but I have never seen anything like the barrel chested upper body strength he clearly possessed...so big wingers have been around for a while ;)

Yeah - I think Elliott to FB and Gagai to Centre is the obvious move...Brownie doesn't have to develop Gaigai as a FB for Souths anymore.

The only reason it might make sense is if Brown sees Elliott developing as a long term centre option with Pongia coming next year and wants to give him chance to start developing some combinations?

Elliott at centre doesn't seem like a very good idea, his best assets are his speed and his defensive decision making at the back which both make him better suited for FB than centre. Also having big edge back rowers and centres running at him all day isn't going to be good, not that gags deals very well with that either to be fair. Also Elliott doesn't have much in the way of footwork and we haven't seen much passing ability either so I'd say his ability to set up a winger is pretty limited. At least when Gags gets early ball he's capable of getting into a position where he can put his winger away, I just don't see Elliott doing that.
