Along the way we managed to pick up a couple great young guys looking for a better shot at first grade like Whare, Seggy and Mansour but the reality is most panthers fans including myself couldn't see the point of these signings but last year in an interview with Sterlo

I would argue Whare was an established star of the game. One of the best centres going around. I felt he was almost a marquee signing.

Segeyaro yes. Though he was definately on the radar for a lot of clubs. Such a talented player.

Mansour. Don't think anyone saw him getting this good. Great singing and an amazing plater.

Whare still couldn't make the manly starting side at full strength, he had some great players in front of him, but he definitely was not an established star he was barely an established first grader, he'd played 26 games in two years most of them not in the centres.

I think the salary cap mainly held us back from signing stars early in Gus' tenure. Sure we became more respectable as the years went by but I have no doubt Gould could have nabbed just about anyone.

The clear factor here is Gould. Just about all of our players have mentioned 'culture' as a reason to sign with Penrith. Gould sold the vision of the club so well that any player in the game is keen to come to the club. Hell, he almost got Johnathon Thurston to come from North QLD to Penrith!
I disagree, Gus certainly improved our signing power straight away but outside of Elijah Taylor and Lewis Brown(who basically came over with the coach) every established star we chased knocked us back before Merrin.

We offered JT over a mil per in 2013(that was huge then) and he knocked us back to stay for less, but we obviously had some cap space available to us, we then went after Carney hard and got knocked back and we then settled for Sowie and Wallace. We chased Ben Mutilino and he said no and all that was after Gus had been with us for two years already.

I coudn't watch the game as I was at work at it started at 4pm local time here...

Any positive guys? Seems like this game could slot in anywhere during our 2016 season. I only saw the highlights but we seem like we should be playing a division lower than some of the other clubs in the NRL...

Ponga's try was really good the other night. Came onto that ball at speed and at the right time. I hope we see those sort of moves from him next year. I know JT threw the assist but surely one of our halves can throw an inside ball...

Is Joey anywhere near coaching our boys these days btw?

LOL, good joke.

Just in case you're being serious, which you can't be, Merrin and Tamou have 45 combined games for NSW/Aus.

Tariq and Buhrer have seven minutes.
