wow people are harsh.

the dude makes a couple of errors each game but that comes with the style of play. he tops our offloads (and yes, most of them are effective) and would be in the top 3 forwards for metres gained i reckon.

yes, he can get lethargic at the back end of games in his defence but that is no different (apart from being a ball player) to a couple of years ago when he was the only one sparking our attack and everyone kissed his now fat arse.

he should have been given more ball playing responsibility earlier in the year. had that happened i am sure mortimer would have looked better because then he would have been able to utilise his strengths better. apart from hayne there is no-one else in the team that can lead a player through a gap via pass or offlaod as well as mateo does.

next year you will see mateo carve up for the warriors on the left side.

I agree with you on this point.

I agree with that. If he had been given more responsibility, he would perform more frequently.

A bit like Hayne.

Mateo is a showman. Likes to show off his wares. But if you ask him to tuck it under his arm and ruck out, he will lose interest.

Not having a shot at you YY, but are you saying if Mateo doesn't get his way, he isn't willing to have a crack? That's pretty poor if that was actually his attitude.

If he'd managed to 'turn it on' from round 1 then:

(a) we wouldn't be facing a must win game this week

and

(b) he wouldn't have to be "sending a message" to anyone as he would've got a nice contract here.

Frustrating player since he could be ANYTHING on his day, but off his day is just awful. $200k is probably more his value....
That would also apply to just about everyone in the team. The whole team never 'turned it on' since round 1. Except Hindy.

Should have heard John Gibbs & Greg Alexander have a massive go at INU! last night on 2UE. Not only about the Broncos game but basically is whole career....

Just get on that Hayne Train and kiss your 2010 Goodbye

sounds like Parra Guru paid your Warriors side a reasonable compliment there, saying your side was currently good enough for Mateo to struggle to make the top 17. No need to get all narky.

I get what you're saying Ike, but I don't think that it can be said that Ando is a poor teacher when he's had the results he's had at several clubs. It might not have worked with Mateo but I think DA at least tried.

I hope Mateo has a great career with the Warriors. But if we get a quality halfback we won't miss Mateo.

I was trying to say that you COULD look at it both ways ... personally, I don't.

I do think Ando could have probably gotten more out of Feleti with a different approach, but ultimately I hold Mateo responsible for his performance.

That's a very big 'if'. It may very well be the greatest 'if' of the 21st century if not the greatest 'if' of sporting history.

Our chances of getting a halfback are as slim as me making that 'if' smaller.

No. What I meant is if you like doing your job a particular way and the boss says no you do it my way or the highway, over time, you would become bored and just not be enthusiastic or just go through the motions ala Mateo.

I just think you should play the player to their strengths and slowly work on their weaknesses whilst in the mean time, get someone to cover their weakness like Carroll defending next to Locky.

Symbiotic.

He has so much talent and I have always rated him as a quality player but it's become clear when his on he can be one of the most damaging players in the NRL easily but that doesn't happen often enough.

I think him whinging about how we didn't through alot of money at him is stupid, but then again if we had offered him earlier in the year we may have been able to resign him.

IMO I reckon he will excel next year at the Warriors and tear up.
