Once hailed the best and got all the big gigs. Just last week he reffed a game with less possible influence on the finals than the bloke who got "demoted" for a shitshow the week before. Matt seems to not fit with the current structure. A strong name like Matt Sutton and who knows how high he could have risen.

Be forever known for having a complete howler in townsville and being sentenced to a few years on the sideline because of it. There used to be a pool running on the cowboysstampede site to which minute he would raise his flag and come onto the field just to get his mug on tv if it was a cowboys home game because it was an absolute given

Mentioned somewhere this week he is thinking of joining the ESL because of the refs administration here.

The self fulfilling prophecy of abusing refs for bad calls, forcing refs out of (or never into the game), producing more bad calls and then more abuse. All leading to a worse product.

The toxic attitude of fans and the media is insufferable.

How many missed tackles, knock ons and pentalties can a team have before it is no longer “refs fault” that they lost?

Sad to see him leave and the fact he and his family received death threats because skippy Fifita can’t keep hold of a ball is shameful.
Hopefully the rumours about him going to ESL are true and he isn’t lost from the sport forever.

Absolutely nailed it. The amount people blame and abuse refs I'm honestly surprised we haven't had one commit suicide

If a ref misses a tiny knock on or a forward pass people blow up and decide it has changed the match and cost one team the game. But if player drops a ball cold or makes a bad read in defence (or doesn't even attempt a tackle) everyone accepts it and moves on

Broncos could have taken the lead early of Boyd grounded the ball last night and could have given them the momentum early and go on and win the match. But he didn't and everyone moved on. Would we act the same if he had scored the try but it wasn't awarded? Same result but just a different person making the mistake

The treatment of referees is disgusting at times, I regret the times when I was a stupid teenager and went off at referees. To hear Checchins family was given death threats over a call that was the correct one is horrible.

the bloke is the lone reason for all of tard20s life problems so it's sad to see him go.
