Matt Duffie has signed for the Blues for 2016. The Warriors missed out on him.

Still around 9 positions to fill i.e. 12 gone and only 3 signed to date. Please don't sign a local heap of U20s ... it won't work.

What does that say about the Warriors that Duffie chose a ratshit team like the Blues?
Unless we never made an offer at all.

2-3 positions to fill at the absolute most. We're not going to be filling 9 spots.

Yep. We HAD depth this year, at least on paper. It was just:

a) Depth guys got injured as well (we had so many injuries), and
b) The guys who did step in didn't perform, for the most part

Honestly, I could see us only signing one more player (an outside back) going into next season. We might get another one or two on top of that (a forward and I dunno what else), but that's it.

With options rapidly falling away, I'm personally hoping for Bryson Goodwin at the moment. After that, I guess the Stanleys (although both have horrible injury records..), Perrett/Williams/Ayshford (those 3 grouped together as only for the right money), Lulia (injuries a concern again), Sauiluma, Reddy, Hunt... then you start gambling even more - guys like Santo, Ahearn or Gardner (can they be converted to centre/wing? various issues for each) and then guys like Kennar or Whitchurch.. or go for John Olive.. but as he's wanted by a few clubs and likely to be commanding decent coin that is unlikely... and he's too young for our reported recruitment brief.

Could end up with a 1st and 2nd XVII looking like (assuming all the unconfirmed rumours about guys currently on contract leaving are true, except RFM who we had better bloody not lose):

Tuivasa-Sheck
Fusitua
Hurrell
Goodwin

Lolohea
Johnson

What's our plan if we lose Johnson again? They should be working on it now. This season's outcome was unteneble.

I'd say he must have wanted out off league and a return to union

You'd think so. I'd think our offer was probably equal to the Blues one, or you'd hope.

If he goes back to Union, it opens up the possibility of going to Europe/Japan etc down the track. He'll be a good Super Rugby player, dunno about better than that.

Man we needed a player like him though. Definitely still down a quality outside back, and preferably an experienced one.
