Matt Moylan proved he is a half.

Pearce disciples already feeling the pressure.

What pressure? The chances of Pearce being dropped this series without another off field disaster are exactly zero.

It's nice that Moylan played well flogging the hopeless Dogs but we all know 1 game doesnt prove anything.

ALSO the only doubter re: Moylan->half was your coach

I dont doubt he will be a massive success in the halves, however he needs to do it against an NRL quality side before I'd go crazy over him
Probably should just leave that to the ladies anyway hey?

It's funny how insecure the Roosters fans on here are about Moylan.
They know deep down he's going to turn them into chicken nuggets before this season is over.

It astounds me the number of people who do not understand the difference between a halfback and a 5/8. There is no doubt Moylan is best served as a 5/8 and barring injuries, will play a lot of origin and Test matches by the time he is done. He does not though play the same role that Pearce does for his club team or would he play the same role Pearce does at rep level. He isn't and will never compete with Pearce for the same spot on the team. Pearce not only organizes the backs but also the forwards, it is the role of an organizing half. Moylan isn't that sort of player.

Likewise whilst Maloney could possibly play that role, he doesn't have the same long kicking game, organizational abilities and defence that Pearce has. Maloney is a better ball runner (as is Moylan) and doesn't have the passing game that Pearce has. It could be argued that Moylan has at least a potentially better passing game than both. More time at 5/8 will prove that. The other thing Maloney has over Moylan is experience in big games, experience in winning big games and goal kicking. Until Maloney's form dips (and we find another goal kicker for that matter) or he is injured, Moylan will be waiting.

That said Moylan looks like the perfect replacement for Maloney long term a he will only get better, the more he plays 5/8.

It would surprise me very much if Moylan and Pearce aren't NSW first string halves from 2018 onwards

Very well said.

In reality we are probably as happy as anyone else, it is just weird how a lot of Penrith fans think Moylan should be in the team ahead of Pearce. I am pretty certain Pearce is largely there on Peter Sterling's insistence. If these fans think they know more than Sterling does about halfback play then I of course would stand corrected.

Maloney did play that role last year against a good QLD team and we won, its not like our organisation went to shit when Pearce went of last week if anything we looked better with the ball. Even playing FB last year Moylan was doing the lions share of the directing the team around getting more touches than both our halves put together, Moylan getting 2 or 3 touches a set is nothing new, he is a dominant playmaker. You are clutching at straws if you think Maloney and Moylan isn't a viable option in origin, it has already worked once. Pearce will deservedly retain his spot for this series but next season if Moylan and Maloney are the two in form halves for nsw they will be the pair picked.

Sean Rudder played two decent games over a 3 year period at 5/8. Obviously cherry picking that evidence means that he was a quality 5/8.
Moylan has an Origin game and a club game up his sleeve at 6. Both games his team won and in both games he looked more natural at 6 than he did at fullback.

2 games was enough for Knights to throw $700k a season at a player to play a position he was yet to play in the NRL.

Come on betcats it doesnt get any more straw clutchy than relying on a dead rubber game where we played mediocre and fluked a win coz QLD didn't care
