It sounds like Wests Tigers only stood him down a couple of times (from training, etc.), but only now he is sacked.

The guy is a mentally very sick individual. He needs extensive psychiatric help, and if he refuses to follow it he will likely end up in prison for the rest of his life.

I doubt that there is any hope of him returning to professional rugby league.

Wests Tigers have terminated Matthew Lodge's playing contract after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man and stalking two women while holidaying in New York.

The 20-year-old forward is accused of following the two women home to a unit block and telling them "this is the night that you die".

In a statement late on Sunday Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said the club would not tolerate such behaviour.

"The club is incredibly disappointed to learn that Matthew Lodge has been charged by police while overseas on holiday," he said.

"We have since made the decision to terminate Lodge's playing contract with Wests Tigers, effective immediately."

The club would continue to offer welfare and counselling options to the 20-year-old to ensure he had the support he needed, he said.

Fairfax Media reported Lodge followed the women into a unit after they were let into the building by a male resident.

Lodge then assaulted the man and damaged the apartment, a New York police report said.

Lodge was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, assault and menacing.

The charges come just months after the young player was stood down by the Tigers over similar domestic violence allegations.

Lodge was granted strict bail conditions after facing court in August for six offences including stalking, intimidation and assault.

So wests didn't sack him previously but after this they have

I was wondering why they took a sacked employee on a club trip to New York

I guess we now know what it takes to get sacked by the tigers

I don't think the Wtigers took him anywhere. Sacking an employee isn't like the movies, you have to follow a process, go ask Cronulla, ie; Carney.

Actually Butch, the Tigers announced his departure at their Grand Final Luncheon along with seven other players at the end of 2015. They've probably just come out and said they've terminated his remained of his contract immediately (which is what until the end of year?)

Employee, club trip?

Pretty sure the club isn't responsible for players' post-season holidays

That would be correct I think, most of the players went to Bali I think? I know Farah did because it was reported during the whole affair with Taylor.

It's everyone's own personal responsibility to do their own post-season holiday. Often that will result in groups of players travelling together but I'm not aware of any club that sanctions their players' or staffs' holidays.

Lodge was contracted until 2017. The Tigers had already terminated the last 2 years. However I believe contracts run until November 1st so I suppose technically he was still a Tigers player.

According to reports he's all apologetic and remorseful the next morning and claims her can't remember anything?

Sounds like a substance was involved.

Chook.
