Matthew Nicholas - Back from Injury - Look out for him.

Guys,

We all know that we haven't been active in the player market for this season. Don't forget Matthew Nicholas though. We got him from Ipswich in the Queensland Cup last year. He came down as a centre and trialled with the premier league side for a couple of rounds prior to last season. Went to watch him in the ridiculous supplementary round "zero" game against North Sydney last year at Cabramatta. He's come off the bench after half time only to do in his ACL in his second carry of the game (That was was around the same time Tsoulos did his). He was working with Hayden Knowles and Craig Catterick over the season to get it right and has only come good just prior to Christmas. Did a heap of upper body work in the gym and was telling me that he tips in at about 95kgs (apparently on return from the offseason, Taylor freaked out at his body fat levels and wants them down to around 10-12% - Understandable though because the knee wasn't allowing him to perform any cardio) . Speaking to him the other day and he says he's a chance for a wing spot at the moment as he's lost alot of the agility and strength in his knee to be able to play in the centres - still working on it to strengthen it up.

He too has confirmed that Davis is running riot at training. Apparently the bloke is a bull. Unstoppable.(Said that Davis will put a heap of pressure on Graham and Delaney for centre spots in premier league).

Anyway - keep an eye out for him in the upcoming trials. He looks a little like Luke O'dwyer but he's got bigger legs. Pray that he doesn't do a season injury again. You wouldn't wish that on any player....

Wondered where he went. Didn't really notice him at the game to be honest..... Hope he goes well.

Actually Gregory, I remember that game at Cabra Sports Ground.

I remember a guy doing some bad kind of injury but they didn't say who it was and seeing Zorba do that hit up that ruined his season 2005

From the sounds of things, he has some potential. I hope he does well also.

Yeah, have been surfing the boards for a few weeks now. Reading up on the "rumours" and all. Just wanted to remind everyone on Matty. He's a champion bloke(Even though he did get arrested once up in Qld for public misconduct - reckons it wasn't his fault though) and the few trials we watched him last year, he performed solidly. He has potential to do some really good things at Parra and if he can get a spot in the premier league side, he won't let us down at all.

O'Dwyer's not that bad, though, is he?

He's not like Tahu or Delaney in terms of athleticism or sheer brilliance, but he's a good, solid player.

Well, in my view, anyway...

Just highlights that I have said, not all young players are destined for greatness. It takes a lot more than performances in lower grades to make it.
