Matty Johns - Roosters coach?

People can shout this down as much as they like, but I reckon Matty Johns would make a brilliant coach in the NRL and if it came down to it, at the Sydney Roosters.

He did a brilliant job with Cooper Cronk for the Storm on a contractual basis throughout the year, but I feel he'd be great as a full-time coach of a club. I remember reading last year Craig Bellamy voicing the same opinion during the City-Country series (Where Matty was assistant coach) and I reckon he could go down as one of the best all-time coaches if given the opportunities.

I guess it'll come down to whether he would be willing to give up his job with Channel 9 (which I doubt he'd do) - but who else reckons he'd make a good coach?

Coaching a club is a bit harder than coaching a single player. I agree he won't give up his TV gig, he'd be silly to.

As much of a clown as he is, he sure knows his footy. Don't know how well he would go as a coach, but Wests sought his advice last year regarding kicks in play.

He is a fruit loop as it is, and would be a continental fruit loop if he gave up his career in the electronic media to be a 3 yr coach.

Johns said on the Sunday Roast a few weeks ago that he had no plans to coach full time at NRL level. He said coaching halfbacks is about all he wanted to do.

I'd love to see him as a coach, no idea how he'd go though. He'd be nuts to go to the Roosters, I doubt he'd last long with the expectations they seem to have. But who knows in the future.

The sharks tried to get him a coaching spot when he retired from us but he wanted to do nine work. I think Manly tried also...

He'd be good due to his knowledge but would you want him picking the sides each week? Seems like he'd have trouble staying above the players - more one of the boys type.

Nah I don't think so. Doesn't seem the type to get involved in coaching, hes got the talent but i dunno if he has the personality.

as a few others have said i beleive on a one on one situtaion with a player he's great. look at Cooper Cronk and how he's helped his game. But i dont beleive he would be a good NRL coach not sure if could make the hard choices like cutting players. But who knows could prove us all wrong

He would be a great coach but there is no incentive other than personal achievment for him really.

He gets paid much more currently than he could earn as a FG coach with much less pressure

seems like a great halves coach which is a top part time gig to go with his nine commitments... he'd be rollin gin it without having the pressure on him this way.
