Ah, thanks for the clarification. Yes, I also recall reading that Price was happy with our stocks in regards to fullback.

But you should choose your words more carefully... after all, that's how bullshit rumours start.

Stick to your guns choc, you said in another thread that there will be no others.
Are you reneging on your previous comments?

Well I can tell you Dean, that sort of stuff from him is far from rare. Every week he's got some cheap shots in him. People are ridiculously comparing him to Slater, but the one part of his game that does match Slater's is the grubbiness.

We need more mongrel. But there's a difference between that, and a cheap shot merchant. I like Beau Scott for his aggression, because it's face to face, there is nothing cheap.
We don't need the cheap shot kind (knees in the back, elbows, tripping etc)

- Although i enjoy sitting here fantasizing about pulling a big star in for the 2012 season, its already November, and Id imagine its too late to get anyone other than Moltzen.

- If were talking 2013, thats a much longer-view, and you would have to weigh up who else is off-contract next year, and how close is Cummins to reality?

- And the other question is whether <xxxx> player is actually interested in a) Saints and b) A Non-Parramatta price-tag.

Not at all...there will be no more signings IMO.

The clarification i offered was regarding whether the club had spoken publicly or not.

I don't think its out of the realms of possibility, provided we play the Moltzen situation right.

Hypothetically -

- Negotiate a release feew ith Wigan during the Four Nations.
-Get the Tigers to pay it and have it count against their cap as compensation for Timid.
- Give him Timids coin.

Thats how I'd be playing it if I were in such a position.

I don't believe he would have a problem joining us after the WCC. He'd know he was coming to strong club that could contend. IMO he'd struggle at times in his first year, but the Wigan structure is very similar to Saints after Maguires tenure, so I don't think he'd have problems playing in it.

I voted NO, simply because it won't happen. Itsd definitely be worth consideration though.

In 2012 we will have a proper NSW Cup side (NRL Reserve Grade Side). Good to have quality players to back up the NRL squad and to provide competition for NRL positions. It would be silly not to use up all of the cap because it cannot be added to the following years total.

As for taking on grubs, I am sure our Coach and Assistant Coach will sort that one out.

As for salary, maybe a back ended deal similar to Gasnier but no where near as much.

Let Tomkins start in the NRL Cup side if he is not up to standard.

I am not spreading any rumours just asking the opinion of those who wish to give one. Learned from the Moltzen affair. My source was good but the asking price was above what Saints were prepared to pay. Anyway lets move on and I will be better for the experience.

So exactly what would be the point of trying to get him to break a Wigan contract early, get him to Oz only to throw him in NSW Cup because he is substandard???

I'm sure a current international would be thrilled to be bought as a "depth" player.

I don't believe he would have to start in the NSW Cup side however, if he joined the Dragons he would have to earn his spot in the NRL team. If for some reason he was not up to standard - as determined by the coaching staff after off season training - then like anyone else in the squad, he would have to earn his spot in the team.

Getting too far ahead of things anyway. Let's see if he is signed first.

More nonsense from the possm

There is absolutely no chance of a bloke of Tomkins standing in the game, leaving for anything but a guaranteed starting spot.
He was in the top 3 for man of steel this season, and has a long term future at Wigan if he wants it. He's not going to leave that for park footy.

The final, and most important point though, is it won't happen.

True but let's not forget who won the man of steel this year. Rangi chase. I haven't seen any of his games this year, but given that's who won it maybe tomkins ain't all that, like gypsy says

Playing for a weaker side helped Rangi's chances with the man of steel,
he wouldn't have had much competition for votes at Castleford.
Look at Gallen in the Dally M's, year on year he's near the top of the leaderboard, while his team is near the bottom.

From what I've seen in the first half of this test, I'd say Saints are daft not to at least have some interest in him.

Did this thread start as a hypothetical or are the Dragons truly interested in signing Tomkins and would he command Dugan money 400-500k a year I wonder?

If we are looking to buy a fullback for 2013, yes we should look at the bloke - so I've answered yes. BUT I'd probably be fishing for Gordon or Dugan if we are looking for a fullback.

Better still, how about we buy a halfback? Cronk? DCE? Foran?

Dugan is the man we need. Cronk would be great, but given Stanley could move into 5/8 and soward to half Dugan seems the ideal target.

I'd be happy with a double raiders purchase... Bronson Harrison and Dugan.
Exactly what we're missing.
