In a major shake up it has emerged that this season will be Paul McGregors last at the St George Illawarra club. McGregor the longest serving coach in the joint ventures history has faced significant fan backlash after a series of disappointing finishes in the last few seasons. That poor run of form reached a peak last season with the once mighty Dragons finishing a distant 15th and was compounded with back to back losses to begin the new campaign.

Club sources have revealed the club has decided to make a break with the McGregor during the enforced season postponement to provide surety and stability going forward. CEO Brian Johnston praised McGregor as a true legend of the club. "Paul has always given 100% to the club firstly as a player and then as a coach the players all respect him but at this point we feel that the club need to move in a different direction".

While not announcing the successor at this point it is believed that the joint venture has its eyes on the master coach Wayne Bennett who previously coached the club to premiership glory in 2010, and is surplus to requirements at South Sydney after this season. The club also has Shane Flanagan as a assistant coach who is able to return to a head coaching position at the conclusion of this season following a ban imposed for his role in the Cronulla sharks peptide scandal and subsequent flouting of NRL sanctions.

Well written? It refers to Brian Johnston as still being the club’s CEO.

Dead giveaway was the bit about Shane Flanagan being able to be head coach at the end of this season. He can't be head coach till 2022. And no reference given. Nice try though.

Typical exit diatribe for one of the most destructive influences our club has had to endure.
Whoever was responsible for the extensions should get their marching orders as well.
