The fellas at work are talking this morning about this, does it raise a good point at the different coaching mindsets
Manly lose, Toovey says "we don't deserve to be in the top 8"
Storm lose, Bellany says "we don't deserve to be in the top 4"
Warriors lose, McFadden says "we weren't that bad"
Absolutely right. It's a message that permeates throughout a footy club. Bellamy sure as shit won't accept excuses (cheating maybe, but that's another debate). Toovey won't, I gained a lot of respect listening to him through the whole DCE crap and when they were last.
Brad Arthur is the best example. Absolute shit upon shit at that club, but he refuses to take excuses nor get too carried away. Result? They beat Manly, they compete with the best sides despite a shit list to start with that's got a hell of a lot worse with injuries. He's the coach I want.
But our coach blames previous coaches/administrators, injuries the lot. So our players say 'oh yeah there is a lot of injuries, gee that's tough on us' and we get served up the shit we've been getting. Which I'd argue is as much lack of good coaching as effort. Ivan never stood for that.
Let's wait and see which departing players that we shouldn't be playing get named for Sunday's game. Exciting times.
