McLinden the dangerman

We need to treat McLinden with the same amount of respect we treated Johns with last weekend. He is in my opinion the real dangerman and the key to the Canberra attack. Much more so than Drew I believe. Infact, I think playing Drew in the halves with him actually hinders his game a little. It will be interesting to see how well they go together in the halves (if indeed they run on as per program, i have my doubts :-k ) as they haven't looked too convincing when playing there in the past. I think we can match the Raiders in the forwards but if we don't shut McLinden down he could tear us apart.

Last season was a real break through year for him following the departure of Finch to the Roosters and from what I've seen of him this year he looks very sharp.

marty's form to start the year has been pretty mixed but he's still played ok. Last week most of us thought he was ordinary against the cowboys yet he still managed to setup 3 tries. Personally, i'm kind of worried about the raiders defence in the halves. I hope matt elliot plays campese at 5/8th and brings drewy off the bench. I think brad drew will be more effective in short spurts as opposed to playing the whole game. Should be an interesting game. Raiders by 12 after being down at half time. Looking foward to seeing eric grothe play again.....

it goes with out saying in light of our recent form defending our line. But dummy half runs is where we could be killed.

At some stage during the game, Woolford will come off and Drew will go to hooker. The raiders style is to run out of dummy half regularly (except for the hooker ironically), so our forwards will have to be alert.

The other player who could cause us problems is Davico.

Davico often (watch it on saturday night) angles his hitups back towards the ruck. He gains good metres when there is a lazy tackler, who doesnt get into 2nd marker, and makes good metres as it is a lightly manned area (directly behind the markers).

Im really worried about Mc Linden......but im also worried about Schifcoske getting into dummy half and running at our markers....Brian will hopefully address this.

at very least an improvment in marker defense is a must it has been disgracefull so far this year. 90% of the tries against Parra in 2004 have come as a direct result of shocker marker defence.

Parramatta's Defence inside our own 20 is ssssssssssoooooooooo soft, its a joke. That Adam Woolnough try was the most embarrasing thing i have ever seen :x

The big thing we have to stop on the weekend is the go-forward of Davico and O'Hara. If we stop their go-foward the likes of McLinden, Drew and Choc can't exploit the quick play the balls and get us on the back foot.

Canberra prop Luke Davico pulled a groin muscle at training yesterday but medical staff were not unduly concerned. The Raiders still have a squad of 19 for tomorrow's game against the Eels.

Colonel Eel you are dead right. Mclinden while turning into a very good half is still either very hot or very cold. Not just the Eels but all teams need to stop Davico, O'Hara, Wiki and our other big men early. We put 10 points in the first 10 minutes on Penrith at home 2 weeks ago due to these forwards laying a platform. That's what teams need to do. Parra can do it. Cayless, Hindmarsh and the others are capable, but need to be strong early.

God, I love seening a level-headed fan of our next opponent on here!

I rate Canberra. Very highly. Danger men all over the park.

But on the flipside, I also think we have some - Morris and Dykesy have been making good metres in the past few weeks through dummy half.

It will be a great contest (at least I hope it will be!)

Good luck to the Green Machine!

I'd love to see McLinden throw a couple of hospital passes, as he did towards the end of the game against the Panthers, and set up either Growth or Burty for a few run away trys ...

I must agree with the accuracy of several statements in this thread:
-McLinden, if on his game, is the danger man and needs to be shut down
-Wagon is the best candidate to do this
-Drew will also have to be watched if he shifts to rake
-Paul Carige *shudder* nearly killed me on many, many occasions from cardiac arrest during his (thankfully short-lived) time
