FROM the humble surrounds of being watched by 500 fans playing park football for Balmain-Ryde Eastwood to being bombarded by Scott Prince at Skilled Stadium.
This is the cauldron-like atmosphere Wests Tigers rookie Sean Meaney is about to be thrown into tomorrow night as the Concord-based club attempt to seal a top two NRL finish.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens has had his hand forced by a cruel injury toll, with fullback Wade McKinnon and centre Chris Lawerence both injured during last weekend's victory over the Storm.

Fast running out of options, Sheens today named rookie fullback Meaney - who has played just three minutes of NRL against the Bulldogs earlier this year - as the man most likely to fill the custodian role against the Titans.
One guarantee, Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince will be raining torpedo bombs his way should Meaney get the call-up.

“Sean Meaney may be looked at at full-back and I may keep Mitch Brown in the centres “ Sheens said.
“Sean is a specialist full-back who represented NSW Residents this year and played well. He has played very well in the Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers side that has done well. I’m looking at maybe giving him a start.”
Meaney trained with the Tigers during their final run at Concord Oval yesterday.
thoughts....?

Meaney is more than good enough and should have been the fullback looked at for next year.

McKinnon has not set the world on fire imo, and if this kid can kick, I am in favour. Please god, no Fitzhenry...

I have my doubts Wade's hammy will ever come good so Meaney's still a good chance to be our 1 next season, imo.

He is very safe cleaning up bombs/grubbers etc. no fear running the ball back, quite speedy.

The thing I really liked about his game was his positional play. for a young bloke his positioning is perfect. Knows when to come up in the line, stands deep in attack so that the defence can't tell whether he'll be part of a second phase play, or if he'll receive a cut out pass etc. really keeps the defence out wide guessing. Also good positionally in defence.

Combines well with his halfback.

Front on defence is fairly poor, nothing a bit of upper body conditioning couldn't fix. He is more of a runner than a playmaker.

ie - more like Brasher/Jack, not like Hodgo

Not too sure how well his body would cope with the bigger faster players in the NRL.

our main problem has been the lack of positional fullback...If MU is on the money a fit Meaney could be a huge bonus....better than Fitzy

I thought he played a decent game - came up with a couple of howlers but then so did Mitch Brown and Simon Dwyer. We could use some of our old heads back. That said, looks like our future is in good hands.

Sheens should have had Meaney in the NRL training squad since his debut (also would have helped his recovery from shoulder sublex) as not only did he deserve it but he would have benefitted greatly and the team would also benefit considering how injury prone McKinnon is this season.

Sean ran alot of support lines last night the way he does for BRET but they were sometimes the wrong lines and I put alot of that down to not knowing the structure (5 training sessions with the squad all season)

I did find it amusing the morons who blamed the loss on him

Totally agree. He should have been considered way before the last f**king game of the season. He should have been in the running before Ryan, Brown, Fitzy and McKinnon. He is a specialist fullback. He should have played half a dozen FG games by now and he would have been sweet for us by now in the crucial part of the comp. What confidence would he have knowing that his 5th choice. Sure he made a couple of mistakes in a tough debut against a fast Titans side. He will improve on that game if given a chance, but knowing farkwits history, he will not be seen again. I'd have him in the side again for the 1st semi.

Had not seen this guy before but he looked comfortable and confident...I was dreading he would be be another Lazarus but thankfully he wasn't.

I like him...can't understand why we got McKinnon when we had him.

Bloody McKinnon no wonder the Warriors let him go...I want his Manager !

"I better get him a new two year contract before he breaks down again"
