Meaney

Meaney was an unsung hero yesterday. Apart from one mistake early on, he put in a flawless performance. His positional play, support play and goal line defence were all good. His tackle on Segyaro to prevent a try was particularly impressive, notwithstanding that Penrith scored a few plays later rendering his efforts in vain. I'd be quite happy to see Meaney continue at fullback although i'm sure Tedesco will slot straight back in when he recovers from injury. Whoever Potter chooses, its pleasing to have good depth in the fullback position.

If Tedesco does return next week it might be an idea to move Meaney to hooker or at the very least use him in tandem with Iosefa. I noticed he was acting dummy half on a number of occasions yesterday. From memory he has a kicking game which gives him an advantage over Iosefa. In any event, Iosefa's lack of fitness means that he can't possibly play the full game again.

Yeah ive always rated Meaney and thought he would have always been a lot better option then Moltzen at fullback. He isnt a world beater but is always very solid and professional plus puts his body on the line. Some here have called him a bog average reserve grader , I think he has shown he is a bit better that.

Safe player, probably not a fulltime first grader but he won't let you down if needed half a dozen or so times a year. Definitely a better option then moltzen.

A real pro and Iam sure if he was given the chances other players have been given he would have cemented a first grade position a few years ago.
Saw him play dummy half last year and was miles better than anyone else given the gig barring Farah of course.Although young Teddy needs all the game time he can get as he is the future, in saying that Nofo would be a brilliant no1, IMO reeks of class

I would love to just straight up replace Iosefa with Meaney when Tedesco comes back.

If that's his standard fare then agree with this.

Went from "Not really a first grader" to "Gee, nice to have him there as a backup" in the space of 80 yesterday.

Liked his confidence under the high ball & preparedness to attack the kick particularly.

I just like the fact that we have two guys that are willing to put in at the back unlike Moltzen (the Adam Blair of our backline ).

Most backups at 1, 6, 7, 9 arent really first graders. They are reggies playing out of their depth just hoping to pull their weight. This is Meaney. He pulls his weight better than most backups.

So......gee nice to have him there as a backup but he is not really a first grader.

He could possibly make a good hooker for a 1st grade club if he had a year or so experience, but im happy to have his deepth value remain with the tigers.

Very much in the Mitch Brown mould - great to have around, a shame they didn't leave Brown at fullback but understandable to let him go. He would have been a shoe in for the 1 after Tedescos injury in rd 1 2012.

Moltzen has nothing in catching, kick returns & defence.

Meaney wins.

would rather moltzen.. serious. this guy has nothing in attack

Whats Moltzen have in attack?
Doesn't contest bombs nor does he run the ball back with effort.
He only plays well when backing up Benji. Benjis poor form just exposes Moltzen for what he really is. Nothing.

Injury saved his skin, out of sight and out of mind.
