Following a request from the football club, the Media centre will be renamed the Peter "Chippy" Frilingos Media Centre as of this coming Sunday.
A plaque and picture of Peter will be displayed in the Media Centre and a sign will be underneath the camera bay of the Ken Thornett Stand

I am very very proud of my club today. As league fans we all know how much 'Chippy' Frilingos will be missed and there was no shortage of league people and clubs coming out to suggest as much at the time of his sudden and sad passing.

But for The Eels to come out and take the first ACTUAL steps in honouring his memory shows just how much of a proactive and responsible club we support.

I hate to bring up other issues in a thread relating to Peter Frilingos, but when you look at this action by Parra as well as the fact that our club seems to be at the forefront of player education programs and making sure that our footballers don't appear in the news for the wrong reasons, you have to agree that whilst we are going through a tough period on the field, we have a grand and leading club off it.

Loud applause for the Parramatta Eels and its administration.

Wasn't Chippy responsible for coming up with the Parramatta Eels name?

Good on you, Parramatta!

Well done!

Any chance that the radio booth at Parra Stadium will be named after Ray Hadley ? ;-)

But good stuff Eels. Proud to be Blue & Gold

That's what I thought as well - so it does have some significance

MEDIA RELEASE
09/06/04
The Parramatta Stadium Trust is pleased to announce that as of this coming Sunday (13 June) the Media Centre at Parramatta Stadium will be known as the Peter “Chippy” Frilingos Media Centre.

This formally recognizes the contribution Peter made to the game of Rugby League in his 40 years as a journalist and a broadcaster.

“Peter and the Parramatta Club have an ongoing link, as it was Peter who first suggested the use of the “Eel” as our emblem back in the 1960’s,” Parramatta Stadium Trust Chairman Alan Overton OAM AM said.

“Peter also sat on the selection panel that nominated the Legends Team in 2002, and was an ongoing part of the panel that each year recommends a nominee for the Hall of Fame,” Mr Overton added.

“The Trust was more than happy to accommodate this suggestion that originally came from the Parramatta Eels, and Peter’s wife Maureen was deeply touched when I asked whether her family would support the initiative,” Mr Overton said.

A plaque and photograph have been placed in the Media Centre, whilst a sign has also been installed underneath the camera bay in the Ken Thornett stand on the Western Side of the Stadium

Wow.

I didn't know that Chippy did so much for us.

May you RIP, Mr. Frilingos.

And once again - thank you Parramatta!

P.S. (Thanks to you guys for clarifying that for me!)

Fair enough. A good move to remember part of our history.

And let's not have Fitzy ever talk of changing the name from Eels again...
