can someone from england tell me if there has been much? matty was just talking it up on footy show and i reckon that if he joey stirs up the media over there enough it will roll over onto the tri nations and actually end up being really good for the international game

It was only officially announced yesterday, so it probably won't be until the weekend sports pages where we will really see how much mainstream coverage it gets?

Obviously the speculation made headlines in the usual league columns etc. But I think your question is about whether it will help coverage of league for people that aren't already "converted", and in places like London and Birmingham where league hardly rates a sports mention (compared to the round ball game and Union, and the current cricket series)?

So time will tell... I did hear Johns referred to somewhere as "as good as Johnny Wilkinson, but less boring" The Superleague season goes right up to when the tri-nations games start over here anyway, so I think Joey's presence will only be a boost to that media interest if Warrington win a few semi-finals.

It got good local coverage (ie North West, +other RL strongholds) as far as i know. When the story first broke it was the main sports headline on the BBC sports website, so that makes a fair impact considering the Premiership season is about to kick off.

I've had people in work who have no interest in RL asking me who this Johns bloke was, and is he that good (i likened it to Everton signing Ronaldinho on loan). So guess it's made a fair impact, i doubt it would have made the national tv news. The papers gave it a fair write up, but nothing like a back page story.
RL hasn't got a massive profile over here, which is a shame given it's probably the best spectator sport around in my opinion.
