oh but they do..
you all have such short memories. As a cricket fan i found it tedious and annoying how much negetivity there was surrounding the last world cup in West Indies. that tournament recieved harsher criticism then the our world cup. I also found it astonishing how little press the twenty twenty world cup recieved last year. It was the best world cup of last year but barely rated a mention over here.
The rugby world cup was surrounded by negetive articles as well.
At the moment the main criticism for the rugby league world cup is that Australia are so far above other countries, which i think will be rectified tonight, not neccarily the tournament its self.
Colin Love should resign over the lack of central message he has been able to push. The word from the start of this world cup should have been:
"look we know the compeition will not as broad as soccer or even rugby union, but i guarentee there will be firece contests, great entertainment and above all else - the smaller nations will be developed. In time rugby league will have great international presence, this is just the start.
as well as
"The tournament is great for rugby league and great for sport lovers. It will make money and create interest in regions that are'nt league mad, but have the potential to one day be. We arent selling rugby league as a threat to soccor's international footprint. We are selling this tournament as a chance to see unique rugby league being played at a fierce pace."
You take these genral themes and have them translated into into short snappy slogans -that push the message in a variety of mediums.
I mean what does 'hero' mean to league fans. "This is just the start' could be more proactive. 'Rugby League as youve never seen it' or have Stanley Gene's face with the words 'you havnt seen him play yet, but when you do you'll be amazed' next to it and have footage in adds of him carving up in the ESL.
These are simple ideas i have thought of right now so obviously they would need refining and expanding but that is the genral message which should have been pumped out throughout the pre cup campeign, not this 'hero' nonsence.
