Coming good at the right time of year once again, those big 3 have all grown an extra leg the last month, especially Cronk he looks amazing since coming back from injury.

So much for them being washed up and on the down.
By the way did anyone by any chance back them when they where like 35-1 to win the premiership couple months ago?:sarcasm:

Mate, Im eating a huge frikkin dish of humble pie now. After ten rounds, it was the first time that I ever felt that Smith/Slater were in decline and that their decline would be permanent. Wrong again. I've always felt Cronk was going okay but he has stepped his game up massively over the last month.

Im not a Storm fan but I admire the way they go about their business and am happy to be wrong.

Yeah I had my doubts as well but should have put at least 50 on them when they where 35-1 just for the fun of it and knowing if the big 3 fire what they could do, oh well can't go back in time.

Will hurt even more if they actually go on and win another premiership :x

Happy for the older players in the team but man its getting old seeing them do well. Dont understand how EPL supporters watch the same 4/5 teams dominate every year.

They have a few good things going for them atm.

1. Big three look fresh and sharp.
2. Cronk is playing out of his mind.
3. Mostly injury-free.....massive plus this time of year.
4. Melbourne set plays are coming off....no team executes a better attacking set piece than Melbourne.
5. Defence has improved massively over the last month.
6. The Koribete buy should not be underestimated....Im tipping a big end of season from him...absolute weapon.
7. Ben Roberts is playing the best footy of his career. Maybe, this will be Bellamy's crowning achievement in regards to turning shit into sugar.

They started to come back into the competition when they stopped policing the rubbish in the ruck.

Very good attacking potency no doubt but their defence was shown to be woeful at the start of the year with a proper policing of the PTB area

Agree 100%

As with every rule change it's policed for 5-6 weeks then it's back to normal. Gutless pieces of shits the refs are.

I think the storm are most likely to challenge manly. The team is probably the strongest they've had since 2010. Cronks time off has obviously freshened him up and they have the 2 best ball running back rowers in the comp.

Last nights game was a perfect example of this. They seemed to be allowed to lay in the ruck for as long as they liked.

Did anyone else notice the next new tactic that they've developed for slowing down the ruck...

Two players come in to make the tackle and hold the player up. A third man comes in and picks up one leg of the tackled player. He then uses the lifted leg to spin the tackled player around like a top before the three tacklers force the player to the ground. Ideally on his back and facing the wrong direction. If they don't manage to flip the tackled player on his back, he is still facing the wrong direction anyway.

Noticed it on at least 10 - 12 separate occasions last night and it wasn't just the one player that was doing it.

They have been doing it for ages, its what got McLean in trouble back in round 3

The big 3 are not kids anymore and clearly have been pacing themselves ready for end of season. Storm will be in the mix no doubt.

It's been modified since round 3.

They used to lift from above the knees and get both legs off the ground on occasion.

Now the third man in is grabbing below the knee and separating the tackled players legs like a pair of scissors.

The way they do it now seems to have eliminated the risk of the tackled player being lifted totally off the ground.

Takes them about 8 weeks every season to circumvent the rules through a technicality.

I don't think anything Bellamy has ever done as a coach has been in the spirit of the game.

But it works, they get away with it. More power to them. Then next season everyone will copy. The game will be plodding rubbish, there will be a "crackdown" and it improves. Repeat

I'm not sure if the Storm take much good from last nights game.

playing a battered club without their first pick halfback, five-eighth or fullback and with back rowers in the backline, how they failed to score more points is trivial.

Was it due to good defensive work from the Tigers or poor performance from the Storm.

As a Tigers fan, I'd say it's the latter.

if they play like that against Manly, Melbourne lose easily.

Yep, and it was something they did an awful lot in the second half, more than the first.

Tigers play well when they have a roll on, so this tactic ensured they were constantly stop starting.

You'd think they would have learnt from the Alex McKinnon incident.

I f**king hope the Knights smash six shades of shit out of them this weekend.

I'll definitely be tuning in.

Melbourne and Manly aren't as interested in winning a Premiership as most people, who want them to fail, imagine they will be devastated if they don't. To threaten and finish every season with their reputation as a yardstick intact is the most important to them. Start of the year had the Roosters beginning a dynasty, easier said than done.

Manly and Melbourne don't want to be like the Dragons, prince to pauper is not something they can abide. Some years the Seagles get a dream run and others the Storm are unaffected by distraction . . . more importantly every year they are in the mix
