Melbourne Storm & country Victoria

There's no way I'm knocking the Storm's place in the competition. They are a must.

I actually think the Rebels will help the Storm in Victoria, not hinder them. Especially at junior level.

Oh I know you weren't mate hence why I thought the quoted post was a tad unfair when you were only proposing a good idea

And yeah, I personally think they will compliment each other.

Not being a traditional state for either code, the majority don't care about each others past crimes against each other. What people will see is a game of one if the codes in Melbourne almost every week. I think that will work well

Except when the Hersld Scum try to play them off each other in behalf of the AFL of course

Steve you are kidding surely? The first graders would nearly kill those playing in the VRL

Play the 20s against them sure, but the first graders?! There is a reason the storm sends non selected players north rather than into the VRL

Yes, but if players in the VFL only ever play against other players from the VFL how will they ever progress into better players?

Better training methods. There is generational change happening now snd we are seeing the fruits with locals in the TC side BUT I don't believe the first grade comp to yet be at that standard

Long term they will be, I still think we are 10 years away though.

I suppose I am thinking in the now. A fair dinky trial between the storm and the VRL tomorrow would be a disaster. Long term yaks idea has legs though

The Storm have also played in Morwell at the Stadium there (used to have the Gippsland Falcons in the NSL) BUT that said I throughly agree.

The Storm should be playing a trial in Country Victoria EVERY year. Even (and maybe even preferably) against a United Victorian Rep side.

There are plenty of places that might draw ok crowds and help the growth of RL in Victoria

Morwell
Ballarat
Bendigo
Geelong
Mildura
Shepparton

There are no excuses
Warrnambool has over 30,000 people and bigger than Alice Springs. Why not?

Depending on what happens with expansion the WA Reds need a NSW cup team if we don't get a 2013 NRL team. Would be good to see Storm play them in trial match in county Victoria.

I read in the paper that Melbourne Rebels Stupid 15's team played a trial match in Ballarat.

Why is it that the Melboune Rebels have only been here for 5 minutes and they have already played a trial match in country Victoria, whereas Melbourne Storm in it's 12 years has NEVER played a single match in country Victoria? Especially in the border towns near the NSW border (if they have it must have been a very long time ago and not often).

Don't they want to promote the game in Victoria? And when you add this to their non-issuing of memberships until late January, how dumb are the Storm?

No wonder they're not self-sufficient and needs News Limited sugar daddy. Are they trying to keep the Storm a secret down there?

well they have ... twice in successive years about 5 years ago
In Albury
got crowds of about 8500 both times

not sure why they haven't been back
in fact there hasn't been a trial anywhere in the Riverina in about as long

but taking the City Country game there is a good move for RL down that way.

Trials in Albury and City vs Country there this year is really good, but I'm taking about in Victoria itself... even though Albury is close enough to Victoria.

I think the Storm should look more into country Victoria.

However other clubs should also follow (regional NSW and Qld), yes there are games played in the bush but is 1 per club enough. I notice some teams play in Sydney one week and then play in Tamworth or Port Macquarie.

Bring back the Tooheys Challenge Id say, I remember the days on Ch 9 where the knock out matches were played in Albury, Cootamundra, Ballina, Noosa , Parkes, Lismore, Bega.

Hell even test matches were played in the bush.

Id like to see it back but unfortunately its probably never gonna happen again, given a lot of players feel 1-2 trial matches is enough.

I know its great we have the annual City/Country match played in regional NSW, but is that enough. People are calling for that game to be scrapped. Well if they scrap it where does that leave Rugby League in the country?
