Melbourne to be in the top 3 average crowd attendance in 2010

Melbourne will probably finish being 2nd or 3rd in average crowd attendance this year. Pulling 25K today makes a good start on achieving this.

With the opening of AAMI stadium and the Melbourne community slowly growing an interest towards league I think we can say that the average attendance will be around 20K.

Sydney clubs now have to step it up as we will no longer be able to throw mud at Melbourne for being sh*t supporters.

Melbourne third last in home average last year. Needs to pull 19k to beat the Titans out of third. 24k at Etihad today is a good start.

Good Friday match against the Dragons is the main reason for a good attendance. If they pull it in the coming weeks I would be surprised but good on Melbourne if they do.

I see Melbourne finishing roughly around the league's average - 16-17k. Next year they'll get close to 20k.

With nothing else open in the state of Victoria today except for vietnamese bakeries therse was no excuse for a poor crowd.

Great crowd, but special cirsumstances. I'd like to see the Storm get average crowds of around 20k once the new stadium opens, but I'm far from confident.

Wait till May 9. Melbourne vs Brisbane. It would beat 20k and possible full house and that has not happend since the Storm first home game in 1998

I doubt the Titans will be getting big crowds this year, except against Brisbane. Their crowds seem to be dropping and without Prince they'll start losing too. Cowboys are way down on what they used to be, Knights are way down and their ground is still under construction and the Sydney clubs with the best potential for big crowds haven't really pulled them in so far this year and the like of the Dogs and Souths won't improve unless they start winning. I don't think the Storm averaging 20k or close to it is out of the question at all, and based on the figures that might just put them in the top two or three. Unfortunately all that shows is how poor crowds are.

First 4 or 5 games at the new stadium should get 30k crowds with high curiosity factor for the stadium alone.

So we'll see crowds checking out the bolts in the roof instead of watching them score tries?

One can hope they get a few more than NSW/QLD expats.

Still, they gotta get self sufficient and stop leeching off the Sydney clubs that they hate.

Knights always play the poorer drawing teams like cows, tits, warriors etc at home now, draw means sydney teams get less travel and better crowds

Gee, the current news is that 30% of those QLD clubs have been begging for money. A bit like the Storm.

You made me feel that the future is real bright for Rugby League.

The future is so bright for Rugby League that other codes are scrambling to make major changes to keep up.

I sometimes wonder someone would think if they were cryogenically froze in 1981 and they were thawed out now.

They would see Melbourne as premiers averaging 14k in Bleak City. Wow.

They would see the same in Canberra. Auckland, Newcastle, and three clubs in Queensland.

They would see a packed house in Wollongong.

They would see the traditional clubs in familiar jumpers still playing strong footy, and big crowds to Brookie, Penrith, Parra and Kogarah.

They would see the names Goodwin, Morris, Grothe, Rogers, Mortimer and Reddy in the top grade.

They would see Perth, PNG and Fiji desperate to join the comp.

They would see a faster game, with less violence, and fitter, faster players.

They would wonder where VFL went, and wonder how League got so far ahead.

And they would see people bagging Sydney clubs and wanting them dismantled - and wonder how mind numbing drugs took over society to such an extent!
