Sportswriter Josh Massoud blogs live at 1pm with his theory on why the Roosters will win the 2008 Premiership. Is he right, or off the mark?
At the risk of having Rooster egg on my face, I’m predicting Freddy’s boys to show why they will win the comp in Melbourne tonight.
This year, there has been no better big game team in the NRL than the Roosters. And it’s the big games that count.
Forget their losses in front of a handful of fans to also-rans like Parramatta and Gold Coast. In a 26-round comp, teams are always going to have lapses. It’s how they play when it really matters that counts.
When the stakes have been highest, the Roosters never blinked. They thrive so well on pressure, anyone would think Freddy has swapped the midweek drinking sessions for rounds of Russian Roulette.
Teams are often a personification of their coach, and the Roosters are no exception. In his playing days, Fittler always reserved his best for the grandest stage. The Roosters have done likewise this year – starting with the season opener against Souths. They blew their bitter rivals off the park in front of 30,000 fans at ANZ Stadium. Three weeks later there was an even bigger crowd on hand at Homebush Bay to witness them demolish the Bulldogs in a grudge match of epic proportions. In between they beat – you guessed it – the Storm in uncompromising fashion at the SFS.
Sure, the Roosters have drifted in and out of form. Importantly, they switched on again for competition leaders Manly – flogged 34-12 at the SFS a few weeks back. They will switch on again tonight. They boast too many big-match players with big-match pride not to.
You gotta congratulate Storm though... they're still a cut above every team in the comp including Manly. Too many options in attack for teams to be able to defend against them properly for 80 mins.
game kinda sucked eh
i think the battle for the top 4 spot is boring the real excitment is the battle for 5-8
Dragons,Newcastle,Tigers,Raiders,Nz with Penrith,Parra and GC 2 points behind
you are yet to justify this 'false pretense' gaba.......
and don't say "look... you got hammered by the storm tonight"
no team would've went down there tonight and won let alone come away within 15 points
How ?Ok that's fine Gaba but you do realise you lot are in there on an easy run also dont you?
And on the storm game i agree the storm would have won no matter who was playing them , but the other sides would least have shown more aggression the roosters were the softest team storm would have faced in a month
Bulldogs were in the 8 for a week when they played roosters , depleted manly were the only 2 teams in the 8 at the time of playing the roosters,
The roosters lost to the depleted goldcoast, struggled against depleted cowboys , lost to a out of form eels side.Lost to a weaken dragons team
Thats why they are there on false pretenses ,
The record against the teams in the 8 at the time of playing the roosters are 2 wins and 12 loses
Thats why they are there on false pretenses
Storm 26
Dragons 0
How ?
manly had the easiest with 1 rep player , sharks similar to the dragons , manly and the sharks has the same easy run if you say the dragons have
The game what the dragons were lucky to have was melbourne i will give you that , but that is all
waht utter rubbish, jsut because a team is not in the top 8 at one time and is in the top 8 at anotehr does't mean they are a different side
and of course all teams are gonna lose now and then to out of form sides.....
so you say we are on 'false pretense' because we've lost to out of form sides?
Dragons had 12 men, and the storm were struggling before ryles was sent off due to aggression.
f**k me, can you speak English? I don't see what you are trying to say. Dragons had the bloody easiest run over Origin, which I'm not complaining about just saying you are a bloody moron for saying the Roosters have an easy draw and you lot have an easy one aswell.
You are a idiot
Manly and the sharks had the same run , manly had only 1 rep player so they had the easiest , it shows how you like to ignore that
:lol::lol: The irony.
So Manly or Cronulla didn't play the Storm when they wer missing 9 players and a coach did they? The stats speak for themselves what is the Dragons record pre and post origin again?
