Thought i might start a thread for all us aspiring musicians out there to promote, inform and basically let the forum know about our bands, our sound, influences and the going ons of our bands.

I'm currently in a punk band called Strike First. started mid year last year when me and 2 other mates decided we would reform an old band we had back in school and look for an extra guitarist. WE've played one gig so far and will be recording a demo next month up in terrigal with a member of local aussie band one dollar short behind the controls helping us out.

thats my band in a few sentences any other members have bands they are currently in at the moment

yooo go ten sicks, my old gay band. we sucked. we were all over the place with our influences, from guttermouth and vandals to pennywise and deviates to gorilla buiscuits and dillinger escape plan to no use for a name.

im looking to start a band now with influences from south bay LA punk.

I had a band a couple of years ago, but we wern't very good.

My and a friend of mine will be starting a band next year when she finishes uni, we are sorta practicising now, we are gonna be like a great mix of music, but I suppose George is her influence, but I dunno, we'll see how we go, i'd like to do stuff like Pete Murray, Eric Clapton etc with acoustic guitar.

i have a 2 piece band at the moment, been practising and stuff since around June last year. I met Kelli at the Australian Idol auditions in Brisbane in may last yr. we got talking and we both had similar musical influences and bands we liked and i thought it would be good if we could start a duo or something. And another good thing is that she writes her own stuff too as well as me.

We call ourselves Forward Pass (because we both are also footy fans and we wanted an unique name). Our music would be best described as U2/Savage Garden/Silverchair influenced soft rock-pop type of music

I have a band that was just a filler for the summer holidays called "poohate". Our influences are toilet humor and death metal, which we roll into one to call "poo-metal". Basicly it's just an immature band with 20 second songs that we recorded on the spot so can't play again.

Checkout our mp3s at http://www.poohate.tk

I made the site and do most vocals, bass and guitar.

My band is called Galapogos, we play Pumpkins cover's and originals that are very Pumpkin-inspired, with a pinch of Rage Against the Machine (not so much Zach's vocals) to taste.

"The Volts"

Influences - AC/DC,Rose Tattoo,The Casanovas,The Angels,Led Zeppelin,Grinspoon,Thin Lizzy.

Kinda like a old school aussie pub rock sound mixed in with a newer, heavier tone.

I'm lead guitaris. Been around since 03 but seeing though we're all still in school (except for me as of now) it has been near impossible to get respectable gigs. We've done a few school gigs and a few big parties but thats about it. Got around 10 original songs and we usually add in 5-10 covers in a set.

http://thevolts.tripod.com

the site is a bit dodgy, none of us have decent html skills.

i'm going to take up bass again....played (or tried to) when i was younger but I'm just into far too much stuff these days not to pick up an instrument and belt out some tunes!

Would like to play in a band one day, even a "garage" band that doesn't necesarrily make it out of the garage....

Would just want to go for a simple, straight up punk rock band. My main influences are Rancid, Social Distortion, The Living End, Green Day, The CLash, Stiff Little Fingers, Rocket From The crypt, The Saints, Radio Birdman, Dropkick Murphys, The Stooges etc. Also a lot of psychobilly influences like Mad Sin, The Quakes, Meteors, Mad Heads, Nekromantix, Tiger Army, Reverend Horton heat etc. just the pace and furiosity of the music gives me so many ideas. Might try and take up double bass one day!

Also lots of outside influences...reggae, ska, country, soul. Would like to combine one of them with the main sound...probably country mixed with punk rock. Think along the lines of Supersuckers, Six Foot Hick etc.

Just left my band recently, looking to form a new one at some stage. It was called Tryst, dunno where that came from I joined after they formed and dumped one singer. We got some decent gigs at a couple of pubs, but then the other guys wanted to go in one direction and I didn't, so I called it a day. I was singer/songwriter, and played some guitar. Influences are pretty widely varied....Screaming Jets, Shihad, Hunters and Collectors, Chisel, Three Doors Down, Metallica,Live, Foo Fighters, REM, Offspring, Nirvana...to name a few. If I had to describe the sound, I guess it'd be a mix of the Jets, Shihad, and Three Doors Down, with a bit of Live in some of the lyrics.

I'm in a band called "Mr Brown" (yes after the old Bob Marley song) and we've been writing together for around a year, or a little longer. Because of money troubles, we've taken this long to get all the equipment we need and are looking at recording in the next month or so.

We only play originals - have written about 18 in total, narrowed down to 8 for the recording. Influences include Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Violent Femmes, G.Love & Special Sauce, John Butler, The Waifs, Cream, Led Zep.... so much stuff. We are a three piece - I play acoustic/electric bass and some back-up vox, Darren is the lead singer and acoustic/electric guitarist and we have a guy playing percussion (Djembe, Bongos, Congas, Tambo, Shakers, woodblocks).

I guess it's a mainly rootsy sound, with strong influences of Blues, ocassional hip-hop and a fair whack of reggae.

went into a rehearsal studio last friday night for four hours and spent 2 hours recording a little 5 track demo for my band. had our guitarists uncle bring his computer along and we saved our recodings straight to the hard drive. must say i'm suprised with the sound quality we got out of the recordings. looking at securing some upcoming gigs around south west sydney and hopefully one up the central coast with one dollar short.
