SHARKS MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS - NOMINATE NOW!

05.03.06 19:21 Age: 2 days
In what will be the Sharks 40th season playing elite level rugby league, firstly in the NSWRL competition and now in the NRL, a series of exciting promotions have been planned to commemorate the milestone.
While a number of events celebrating the 40th anniversary will take place throughout the season, the first acknowledgement will involve a Sharks Most Memorable Moments competition.
Via the website, we are asking all Sharks fans to nominate, via email, their favourite Sharks moment. Nominations will close on Wednesday, 8th March 2006, with the top 40, as chosen by a panel of current and former Sharks officials, then going to a supporter vote to narrow down and then rank the final 10 memorable moments.
Details of each of the top 40 'Most Memorable Moments' will be announced and listed on the Sharks website, with website members having the chance to not only vote for their favourite, out of the top 40, but to also post their comments on why they believe this moment to be among the Sharks most memorable.
Players from that memorable moment or at least from that particular era, will help to commemorate the top 10 during home games this season, building up to the moment voted, by the fans, as the best in the Sharks 40-year history.
All those who vote on the top 10 moments and post comments, will go into a draw to win a Sharks Jersey signed by the entire 2006 Sharks NRL squad.
All nominations for the Top 40 must be in by Wednesday, 8th March and all votes for the Top 10 must be in by Friday, 24th March. So, email your nomination now like Matt Roberts did from ALICE SPRINGS. Please find below his most memorable moments (in no particular order):
- 1973 grand final
- Thrashing Newcastle by 50 points at Endeavour Field August 11, 2002 I will never forget it
- Preliminary final loss in 1999 at Telstra stadium where we led at halftime we were so close and I have never ever (still to this day) seen so many cronulla fans at the one venue.
- That piece of trash mark bugden breaking steve rogers jaw in 1986 or 1985. Ended his career.
- Try against Parramatta in 1988 scored by ET went through 16 sets of hands unbelievable (I think it was at the new parramatta stadium)
- Minor premiership in 1988 after such a long dry spell during the 80s
- Thumping the Bulldogs in the 2002 semi-final by 40 points after all the dark times against that club we charged home that season after a slow start
- The day they brought the UP UP CRONULLA song back to Endeavour Field and the singalongs
- ETs comeback game in 1999 where he scored 2 tries against Balmain
- The absolutely disgusting performance by referee Shane Hayne in that 70 point loss to Parramatta in 2003. Any Sharks fan will never ever forgive him for that
- A mitch healey field goal to win the match against top of the table Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground in 1989/90 ?
- The introduction of the mermaids
- Our first Saturday night game in the early 1990s huge crowd huge atmosphere
- The day we broke manlys winning streak at Endeavour Field (the cement truck match where Bob Fulton threatened the referee)
the game against Newcastle was a goodun.
A game against the Broncos where the whole crowd sang "Wally's a wanker"..we won.
