Rabbitohs fullback Nathan Merritt and halfback Chris Sandow have finished as the competition’s top try scorer and point scorer respectively for season 2011.
Merritt finished the season with 23 tries, equal with Bulldogs fullback Ben Barba. 23 tries is a personal milestone for Merritt, eclipsing his 22 tries scored in 2006 when he was last recognised as the sport’s most noted try scorer.
Merritt scored four doubles, a hat trick and an incredible five-try haul against the Eels in round 22 to rack up his 23 four-pointers. Barba needed four tries against the Raiders today to equal Merritt, a feat he achieved.
Merritt has now scored 123 tries in his 181 NRL matches, including 115 tries from 162 appearances for the Rabbitohs. Merritt is the outright second highest try scorer of all time for the South Sydney Football Club.
Sandow scored a season-high 195 points in 2011 from six tries, 82 goals and seven field goals. On ten occasions Sandow scored ten points or more in a match this season, including 55 points in four weeks between rounds 21 and 24.
Sandow is also the season’s top goal kicker as well, knocking over 82 goals from 97 attempts for an accuracy percentage of 85%.
On behalf of everyone connected to the Rabbitohs, we congratulate both Nathan and Chris on their stellar performances throughout season 2011.

I've heard it's the first time since 1927 that the highest point scorer and try scorer are from the same club.

You're a f**king idiot. Bulldogs in 2002, individual player records from that year still stand.

Firstly don't insult me when it was obvious I was only passing on information, f**kwit. But maybe the article I was thinking of didn't count cheating teams.
