Dobson Re-Signs with the Raiders

The Canberra Raiders have re-signed halfback Michael Dobson on a one year deal, which will see him remain in the national capital until at least the end of 2008.

Dobson returned to the Raiders at the beginning of 2007 after a successful stint with both the Les Catalan Dragons and the Wigan Warriors in the English Super League, and has started in eleven of twelve matches for the Green Machine this season.

Dobson said he is glad to have his future at the club for next season taken care of, and he would now look to repay the favour with some good form for the Raiders.

“It’s been hanging over my head for a few weeks now but it’s done now and I know what I’m doing next year,” Dobson said. “It gives me and the club an opportunity to know where we’re both at. I’ve only played eleven games so it gives me an opportunity to back myself next year and hopefully I can prove myself.”

Dobson said he was thrilled to be able to remain with the Raiders, as he has developed a strong relationship with his team mates and the club.

“I’m just happy that I’ve got something sorted out here because I always wanted to stay,” he said. “I’ve got all my mates here and they’ve looked after me since I was 16 so it was always my first choice to stay here.”

Raiders General Manager Don Furner said the club was ecstatic that Dobson was staying with the club for at least one more season, but hoped to increase that time frame early in 2008.

“It’s great to have Michael signed up for another year, and good to do it before we lost him to another club,” Furner said. “It’s a one year deal and I would like to think that we would be sitting down with him early next year and extending that as well.”

Does this mean, we aren't gonna get him?

I have it on good authoity that we will.

We need a halfback, deluxe!

Tigers turn sights to Sherwin for new season

javascript: PreviousBlock();
MICHAEL DOBSON, the scrum-half who helped keep Wigan in Super League last season, is set to agree terms with the Tigers for 2007 – but not newly-promoted Castleford.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the National One champions, who are conducting a worldwide search for a replacement for Wakefield-bound Danny Brough, but is now expected to stay in the NRL with Wests Tigers.

"We have spoken with his agent and though it seems Canberra don't want Michael, I get the impression he doesn't want to come to England and would prefer to stay in Australia," said Castleford's team manager Mick Robinson.

"It's disappointing but we will only sign players who really want to be at Castleford and have other options which we are pursuing."

Brent Sherwin, a 29-year-old scrum-half with Canterbury Bulldogs, is Castleford's main target as they look to add up to 10 new signings for their first season back in Super League.

Widnes's season took another turn for the worse yesterday when the beaten grand finalists went into administration.

The Vikings, who were beaten 42-10 by Castleford at Leeds on Sunday, are seeking new owners in a bid to prevent the cash-strapped club from being wound up.

They are the third National League club to go into administration this year, following on from Swinton and Doncaster, both of whom were docked six points for breaching RFL insolvency rules.

Former Castleford winger Damien Blanch, who played against them for Widnes in last Sunday's grand final, is close to agreeing terms with Wakefield Trinity.

Celtic Crusaders have further strengthened ahead of their first season in National One with the capture of Widnes trio Jordan James, Ian Webster and Aaron Summers.

Wigan second row Gareth Hock was last night banned for two matches and fined £500 for a spear tackle on Leeds hooker Matt Diskin.

Hock will miss one pre-season friendly and Wigan's opening match of next season.

Mick Robinson is tghe good authority I was talking about, he is in Australia at the moment, staying in my spare room.

So let's hope we get him, Dobson that is.

How is it fake kul ?
The yorkshire evening post is a major paper up there (a daily no less)
No paper in britain covers league more in depth than the Yorkshire Post/Evening Post
We can only hope and pray it's spot on .. will signal the end of ever seeing that spastic morris in the 7 jersey

He could not be any worse than morris
Bet the signage contractors are spewing if morris goes
Without fail they could bank on having to repair dents from morris grubbers that went too far

I'd love to see Dobson playing in our NRL side for one reason only.

ie- I can just imagine the posts on here by theMOTH. It would be hilarious.
As much as you vent your spleen with regards to Morris' performances, it would be considered mild & tame to what you'd have to say about Dobson. If Dobson is of first grade standard, then Morris is the next immortal.

Seriously, Dobson is supersh*t & I wouldn't trade Peter Lewis for him.

Dobson is a halfback. One
Dobson has a good kicking game (short and long). Two
Dobson can kick goals. Three
Morris missed 7 tackles in the Newcastle debacle to save his godfather a spoon. He wasn't much better v soufs. His defensive strength is a myth. Four

Dobson i would take in a heartbeat over that f**kwit Morris

Morris missed 7 tackles in the Newcastle debacle to save his godfather a spoon. He wasn't much better v soufs. His defensive strength is a myth. Four DOBSON IS 10x WORSE

Dobson i would take in a heartbeat over that f**kwit Morris YOU'D SOON REALISE YOU WERE WRONG TO DO SO

As I said, COMPARED TO DOBSON, Morris is the next immortal.

I'm not saying Morris is a competent halfback, I'm just saying Dobson is far worse. Did you watch many Raiders games this year? I did - trust me, Dobson is not the answer.
Personally I think Benji will become an outstanding No.7, IF, he stays healthy

We do not want Dobson.

MOTH you always bag Morris and protect Bungi so tell me who was more valuable to the Tiges this season, Morris or Bungi?
