Mayb you should put that down to coaching, however many years at newcastle and u describe him as lazy then he comes to manly and wins a premiership and gets a test selection. Des hasler turns nobodies into good players. I've never seen brian smith turn a scrap heap player into something good or to even get the best out of someone. He just takes already developed players and tells them to play. rather than actually putting the time and effort into making them better

Some of u are honestly deluded about smith. have a look at some of the top teams in the comp and see if those guys would even get picked, look at the dragons or a whole heap of others and you'll see. Brian smith has been a cancer on yur playing roster he might be an ok manager but he's no great shakes as a coach, the dragons and the eels will both tell you that. and those guys u mentioned for origin, lets face it mcmanus didnt deserve to be there, taia won't get a run against the australian backrow and houston was only mentioned and despite all the injuries didnt deserve a run (good player though not bagging him) i just think another coach would have got a lot more out of the same talent

both stewart bros always had the potential, they don't fit your criteria. dave williams is a numpty with a beard who got lucky. matt ballin is average and if anything that reflects poorly on QLD's depth (and hasn't played origin, so also doesn't fit your criteria). steve bell is another reflection on QLD's poor depth and is average at best. lol... 100 first grade games in a row is suddenly des haslers doing? so what? the bloke hasn't been injured. he's a bloody nuffy. yes, glenn hall won a premiership... but so did sean rudder. matai didn't even play in the bloody final of the world cup... but at least he has genuinely repped NZ... albeit in NZ's losing teams, not their winning one.
