LEGENDARY Test batsman Michael Hussey has accepted a role as a batting consultant with Cricket Australia.
The veteran West Australian, who retired from international cricket early last year but was still playing in the Big Bash League this season, will mentor young batsman in the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, working alongside the centre's head coach Troy Cooley and former England international Graeme Hick.
Hussey will also do selective work with Australia A teams as well as the best female players in the country with the Southern Stars.
"I'm looking forward to trying to help, that's the main thing," Hussey told Fairfax Media.
"I feel like I can help some of the good young players, men and women, on the technical side of the game but also the mental side, dealing with pressure situations and the art of batting.
"Adapting between the three forms of the game is quite challenging for the modern player, but I think the basics remain the same. Having experience of playing all three and having to chop and change is hopefully something I can pass on. I certainly didn't find it easy."
"I want to try everything. I love the game and when I was still in the Australian team I felt like I was doing a bit of coaching. I loved working with the younger players and that was an education for me as well."
The 38-year-old was hoping to make a stunning comeback to Sheffield Shield cricket this season, and indeed the new coaching role wouldn't have prevented him from doing so.
However Hussey was forced to abandon that hope after WA coach Justin Langer confirmed that if his former teammate wasn't available for all Warriors games, he wouldn't be selected in the Sheffield Shield.
