Well done Mick on following some very famous names such as Clive Sullivan, Phil Lowe and Roger Millward in captaining the Robins.

They are puttting together a very handy squad for next seasosn with the signings of
Newton, Crossman, Jake Webster, Fitzhenry and Galea. A Wembley Challenge cup appearance isn't out of the question.

Mick and Morgs and Hull KR will just be happy to gain one of the Super League franchises for 2009-2011 that will be announced in mid-2008, when annual promotion and relegation between divisions comes to an end.

Wembley Cup appearances or Super League playoffs would be a bonus for the Pride of East Hull compared to achieving stable status in the top grade.

Former Hull FC fullback and England International Shaun Briscoe will support Mick in his role - being named as vice captain.

30 year old Vella has consistently led from the front since being appointed as captain last year and was an obvious choice for Justin Morgan, as he proved his worth as a respected captain both on and off the field, leading the side to a seventh-spot finish in the league table.

The leadership abilities that the former Parramatta Eels player possess will certainly aid him in guiding the Red and Whites to the top of the table this year.

Vella commented: “The captaincy role is a great honour for me, I never take the position for granted and when Justin asked me to carry on with the captain’s role I was really happy to accept. I’m looking forward to working with Shaun Briscoe as the vice captain, he is a player with huge amounts of talent and is well respected within the game”.

Shaun Briscoe has impressed players and coaching staff in the short time that he has been with the team, his attitude at training and the professionalism that shines through was a contributing factor in Justin naming him as the vice captain.

At 25 years old Briscoe has been set a challenge that he is looking forward to, and has a great example to follow in Vella and commented: “I was delighted to be offered the role of vice captain, I know that I can learn a lot from Mick. I’m ready for the challenge that this opportunity will bring and can’t wait for the season to start”.

Morgan added: “Mick did a great job last season and the boys have a lot of respect for him, he offers the team and the coaching staff a wealth of experience, he is a very good captain. Shaun has impressed me since he arrived and he has built up a good relationship with his team mates, which will only be of benefit to the club, they will work well together in leading the side to victory this year.”
