Dragons enforcers Michael Weyman and Beau Scott are locked in a head-to-head battle to make the cut for the NRL All Stars voting.
Only two forwards and two backs from each club can qualify to the next stage when the public vote closes tomorrow night.
While team-mate Ben Creagh has been a clear leader, it will be down to the wire to see who Dragons fans choose between NSW State of Origin representatives Weyman and Scott.
Experienced centre Matt Cooper - who last year retired from State of Origin to focus on the rest of his NRL career - and Kiwi international Jason Nightingale are expected to be the backline duo.
After voting closes, NRL All Stars coach Wayne Bennett will select the 64 players chosen into their preferred position, allowing the public to choose the team when the second stage begins on December 27.
One player from each club will then be picked in the NRL All Stars, based on the highest number of votes in each position.
All Stars captain Benji Marshall and ARL selected player Cameron Smith are the only two automatic entries.
Bennett, who coached St George Illawarra to the 2010 premiership, will then decide on two more players to complete the 20-man squad. The Indigenous All Stars team was named earlier this month, with NSW five-eighth Jamie Soward missing out on selection.
