Mickey Paea signs 1 yr deal

Good signing, if you are willing to take a gamble. He has plenty of potential, but has really failed to deliver this year and Lopini has outplayed him big time. Maybe the 1 year deal might fire him up and he might get more involved in games.

Mickey has killed it for the Jets this year, been pretty solid in firsts as well. Spewing we've lost him, it was at about this age, Lopini stepped up as well. People forget that Mickey is 2 years younger, mainly because he was so much more damaging than Lopini before he hit his straps. The way the dragons are going they're going to have one of the best 2nd row rotations in the comp. Creagh, Scott, Smith, Young, Paea is a damn solid rotation. Front row stocks look a little thin though.

I thought Mickey was more of a prop. Also forgot Costigan in the 2nd row.

He could play both. But he's better running a bit wider, not sure his defence is tough enough for a regular middle of the park spot either. He certainly has the build and leg drive for a front rower though.

Mickey is 100kg or 4kg lighter than Lopini as well as being a couple of years younger
The Ben Creagh to prop theory is starting to sound more likely all the time
Given we now have
Smith
Young
Costigan
Scott
Paea
All lining up for 2nd row at 100kg or lighter
And only
Hunt
Poore
Weyman
Creagh
At over the ton
Even Thorby is only 100kg and Creagh is getting bigger every season

Probably should lay off the pies then!

21.

Saffy is another one (105Kg) who if he pulls his finger out could be a decent prop.

Dont like how browny used him in the backrow mainly this year.

Ranieri is also another beast at 109Kg 193cm. Shame he missed all this year with injury. Reckon he would of played a lot of FG this year.

I wonder if paea was worth it. Ballin is good if we get him but i can see players missing out here. We have no premier league side as well so that is also not good. Why paea? Not saying he's bad but don't we have enough signed already and from nyc if necessary?

If we sign a decent 1/2 before 2010 I think we are in with a very, very good chance to go close. I may even inquire what odds I could get for it now.

MANLY hooker Matt Ballin will give the club a timely boost leading into its preliminary final by signing a long-term contract extension this week.

Ballin will knock back offers from Brisbane and St George Illawarra to extend his stay with the Sea Eagles for either three or four years.

There were concerns Manly might struggle this season when they lost inspirational rake Michael Monaghan to English club Warrington after last year's grand final loss to Melbourne.

However, Ballin and fellow hooker Heath L'Estrange have given the Sea Eagles outstanding service out of dummy half.

"It's taken a bit of time but we're close to a deal," Ballin said.

"I'm definitely going to stay here and I'm looking forward to getting it done. We've pretty much agreed.

"There were a few clubs interested but Manly have been good to me and I don't want to go anywhere.

"There's obviously a good culture here at the moment."

Manly coach Des Hasler is yet to settle on his team for the penultimate game of the season, although it appears Adam Cuthbertson will again miss out. L'Estrange squeezed the ball-playing forward out of the line-up against the Dragons last weekend, scoring a try and setting up another in an impressive display.

Cuthbertson was a big-name absentee at Manly's fan day on Thursday. He was training with the Sea Eagles' NSW Cup team, which played yesterday.

Hasler insisted Cuthbertson, who has played 21 games this season, was still in the selection mix.

"It's a week-to-week thing," Hasler said.
