microwaving potatoes

i own a microwave and sometimes use it to reheat meals. most of the time this goes pretty well, but it doesn't go so well with roast potatoes or french fries. what i'm looking for is an explanation

Potatoes are like Stir-fry... you're not meant to re-heat them, eat them straight after cooking! Only BBQ Potatoes even resemble some sort of good taste after re-heating them, and it's not even that good.
