"Needs to lift: Mitchell Pearce. He’s the captain, the halfback, and the club’s highest paid player. Pearce must take much of the responsibility when the team underperforms and they did so on too many occasions this year. When the Knights win Pearce plays well but his game management and ability to ice the end of a set leave a bit to be desired at times. It’s been three years since he was brutally sent packing by the Roosters and replaced by champion halfback Cooper Cronk, who would subsequently win two premierships for the Chooks. Pearce must find that high level of consistency in his game if he wants to bring a much-needed title to the Hunter."

The comparisons of Pearce and Cronk are a stretch, Chooks may, yes may, have won premierships with Pearce had Cronk not came, they were a very strong side and at that time Pearce was playing well, in fact he played well here first season but has declined since, Cronk just ensured they won it.
*******Just had an interesting thought, who played 5/8 during Pearces first year???????I’m sure someone can tell me.

2018 was when Brown was coach so the answer would be 6 different 5/8's.

First game it was Watson and last game of 2018 it was Jack Cogger

It was reported at the time that the Roosters thinking was that after years of minor premierships Pearce didnt have the extra gear to deliver the title- and they were right.

Even when the Roosters won the title in 2013 it was on the back of Maloney - Pearce performed very average in the GF. ( his stats in that GF are comparable to Cronk's with a broken shoulder )

Pearce was great against us in the Prelim that year of course.
Would’ve been nice if he shit the bed like he normally does in big games.

They let Pearce off the hook - he was struggling well before Mann shifted to hooker

14. Mitchell Pearce (KNIGHTS)

It was a disappointing end to the season for the Knights, but Pearce still finished 13th in try assists with 16 and had two tries, three linebreaks and 21 tackle busts.

Pearce struggled when his halves partner Kurt Mann had to shift positions to help with a hooker crisis and hopefully he can benefit from having a more permanent halves partner next season.

Pearce and Mann stand on opposite sides of the field. I don't know how they impact each other so much. Was Pearce only getting try and line assists to Mann? Garbage article.

Junior had a bad season and yet we made the 8. If injuries go our way , even if just for once, he may fire having a regular spine every week. It is really tough marking to go after a guy who had five different dummy halves in one year to work with , and then lost his 6 (Mann) to the 9 jumper to add insult! Let’s be real. Journalists love putting shit on Mitch. They want to blame him for Origin still. Joey would likely have had trouble overcoming that Qld side.

Mate...journalists and the media have always adored Mitchell Pearce, due in part to his father. Why do you think he's played so many Origin matches despite being abysmal in every single one?

That still doesnt explain the most missed tackles in the NRL and the worst short kicking game of almost any half in the comp.

This is the puzzling bit

Pearces defence has always been one of the strongest facets of his game but this year, especially late in the season, he was awful. Is he carrying an injury? Mental?

Mann was going great guns at 5/8, taking a lot of the short tactical kicking early in the season. Its goes a little way to explaining some of Pearces drop off
