all pc dvd roms are region locked. it's not easy to defeat in general and usually requires a bios flash with cracked firmware to allow it to play back other regions. usually you get 5 chances to set the region before it's set permantely. software region coding is just a 2nd level of protection and is easier to beat, but i'm pretty sure you won't find a software fix if your dvd rom isn't already region free.

On the contary, almost every new dvd player for your TV contains a software code to unlock the region setting.

just search for you dvd model in google. usually they get rid of the 2x dvd ripping lock too.

to be honest, i dont think i've ever bought a different region dvd

DVD region free bypasses RPC1 and RPC2 protection (software and hardware). Its about 20-30 US bucks and the free trial proves it works. Highly recomended for use on your PC.

I hate region coding on DVD's its just dumb.

there are other reasons for using a modded console - not just game piracy - if the things it can do for you interest you of course.

ill check out the dvd region free program. i havent bothered looking for a new firmware for my new dvd writer as i never other regions to worry about it.

Didn't the ACCC tell the DVD makers to get lost and said that region coding was uncompetitive practice?

I thought the ACCC was leading the charge for non region coded DVDs.

I use Power DVD for my PC and have no probs what so ever playing other region DVD's on it
