Montoya suspended for four matches

I find the fact that Montoya has copped a four-match suspension an absolute joke, not only for what he said but comparatively to what others have received for other offences.

So cocaine possession = two games. Drink driving = one game. Using a gay slur = four games. Closely followed by elbowing someone in the head = six games.

I've been very strong that homophobia has no place, but the NRL are being woke - and I've never used that word before. Drink driving kills people. Cocaine kills families and can ruin communities.

Woke is the word alright. It's absolutely obsurd he can cop a 4 week ban for that. The world is f**ked. Reece Walsh, Cameron Munster & Brandon Smith should have all copped 15 week bans for cocaine use/possesion. Jordan Rapana should have been banned for 10 matches for DUI. No, no no, slap on the wrist with a lettuce will do it. What are those bans telling other players & members of society?? I'm dumbfounded.

FTR, i certainly do not condone what Montoya said, but common. The outraged brigade will ensure that the game of Rugby League doesn't exist at all. It's nothing like the game that I grew up loving. Rant over.

also just as an aside, I dont think Tedesco got any games for the Squid Games thing earlier in the year?

Is one worse than the other coz it happened on the field? legit question

He should have punched him in the face instead. Would have got a sin bin and a week and thats all.

I suspect proof, if someone recorded him saying it would be more made of it. But then again Roosters player.

What ever happened to "stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"? Taken out of school curriculum? :)

Yes, it is a joke- but using a word like that, you are at the mercy of the selective outrage crowd. And they aren't very merciful

Consistency has long been a hallmark of NRL decision making

That's it - and the thing is, there will be no pushback or discussion around it. Ok a) because Warriors and non star player but also b) no one would dream of putting their name to anything that would further incite the mob. We can debate Daine Laurie playing pokies for weeks but by God not this

Something broadcast on live TV to hundreds of thousands of people internationally with NRL and sponsor branding all over it is worse yes.

Moses got two weeks for this 8 years ago.

The world has changed in those 8 years.

I hold a 26 year old in 2022 to a higher standard than I do a teenager 8 years ago.

Sure I'd probably have done 2-3 weeks, but at the end of the day it's all on him. It's not acceptable, and if making an example of him stamps out some of it elsewhere then good. I don't care what Jersey he wears.

This is the truthiest truth ever truthed. For such a liberal bunch they (The Woke) are brutally totalitarian. Fair dinkum he shouldn't have said the word though -- shoulda known better.

Those are all very good points.

The issue isn't the four weeks - it's the leniency elsewhere. Especially to me about drink driving. That's a conscious decision to do something that kills people. If anything needs stamping out, it's that

Gould did a good job pointing out the insufficiency of a precedent for a 4 week suspension. It has always been a fine. It's fine if it isn't now, but they should have made that clear before it happened.

bit going on in that article- particularly the reference to Matt Lodge. Seems Kane Evans didn't invent the merkin wristband.

It hasn't always been a fine though, because Moses got suspended for it.
