Montpellier with 2 young irish players

Aaron McCloskey and flyhalf Ian Cross, both born in Limerick, just join the Academy of St Helens, take direction of Montpellier for 2011-2012. They are participate "Rugby League Ireland Talent Identification Academy", established last May in Limerick, and open to young Rugby Union player to convert in League. McCloskey and Cross became international with Ireland recently, and should be in the squad for the November tests against France and Samoa, at Thomond Park.

Just wish a good year in Montpellier, hoping they want maybe play more time in our team.

They are down there to get experience in the UK off season (French full season) before having a crack at the Saints first team.

Great place for them to go

Catalans played a game in Montpellier this year, and the way they were talking on their forum you got the feeling that it was pretty close and that they had a Union side in the top flight comp and a quality stadium.
It really did sound like it was close to League heartlands and has facilities good enough for super league. They also have a 'Rugby' culture.

There's a few teams pretty close to them, Avignon and Carpentras, so there seems to be some RL history around the region.

The stadium in Montpellier has a 33k capacity and was used for 6 games in the '98 soccer WC - so a first class facility.

Thanks. Seems firmly in the southern Rugby heart.
I wonder how long before FRL and FIRL teams will play each other? not far (on the map anyway).
Promising, good luck all.

Montpellier Rugby League "Les diables Rouges" is the oldest Sport Club still alive. Club was create in 1953, along time before other Sports. The problem (everything is relative) in Montpellier City, there is a lot of Pro Sport Team in Top 1st Division.
MHSC (soccer) play in League one in "Stade de la Mosson" with a capacity around 33 000 / 35000 and last season lost in Cup final.
MHRC (Rugby Union) play in Top 14 in "Stade Yves du Manoir" (capacity around 12000/15000) and finish 2nd behind Stade Toulousain last Season.
MAHB (Handball) play in 1st division in "Palais des Sports René Bougnol" (5000) & "Park & suites Arena" (10000) and was France's Champion for the 13th time.
MWP (Water Polo) play in "Piscine Olympique of Antigone" and lost in Final against Marseille.
BLMA (Female Basket) and win France's Cup last Season.

And Montpellier Diables Rouges play in "Stade Sabathe" with capacity of 8000.

(Sorry I forgot Aussie Footie "Montpellier Fire Sharks", American Football, Baseball ect)

the difficulty is in order of 2:
1/ found sponsor for finance clubs
2/ attract a new public in stadium when you are 2/3 big games the same day

Apparently Ian Cross was seen on crutches after a St Helens reserves match a few weeks ago, do you know if he is still injured Maya?
