I'm guessing its because they are a strong club with quality coaching.

Players tend to gravitate towards clubs like that if they want to be selected for higher honours.

Of course theres exceptions but I'm pretty sure you'll find a good percentage of our ball/matts/flegg sides have had stints playing for the wanderers

Well, when you're right, you're right.

I have a mate who's son plays for Leichhardt Juniors and he told me that out of the nine S.G.Ball players who were selected for the Wests Tigers cubs team, eight (Pangai, Caldwell, Khouiss, Cameron, Ngata, Farlow, Nicholas & Falcone) all come from Wanderers! Sam Wara from Leichhardt Juniors is the only non Wanderer. I also understand that Robbie Farah & Bronson are ex Wanderers as well. I thought the inner west was supposedly struggling as a football nursery!!

Theres no doubt we don't have the numbers of other districts but we certainly still have the quality.

There does appear to be something of a revival (even on a small scale) of league in the inner-west over the last few years though. The return of first concord-burwood united and now (even though its only in one age group) the Balmain Police Boys is a fantastic thing for league in the district and the vastly improved performance of the Balmain junior rep teams over the last 3-4 years has been amazing.

I think credit is due to those at the club who finally woke up and realised that even though we will never have the numbers of some clubs thats no reason to sit back and let junior footy in the region die.

There has always been atleast 1 quality side from each age group, however keeping the top players interested in the game is a problem!Even at the moment,I know of a handfull of players who would be walk up starts in Ball/Flegg,but they aren`t interested!

I forgot to mention that Andrew Hill and Shannon McDonnell from our SG Ball made the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Open team and Josh Bishop from our Harold Matthews team made the U/15 team, so despite the disappoiting results for these teams they still have some good players getting noticed.
