Frank is a good mate of mine, and he would not put this up if it didn't have truth in it.
My own post was directed at the NRL itself and its interpretations of what constitutes a "bad performing club".
Ours may have had some inner office issues but at the same time on the field they have been very competitive up until the last couple of years, but yet still made the finals.
What does that say about the other shambles of clubs, and the NRL's opinion of them.
Do the NRL constitute having The Storm or Roosters winning the last 4 GF's as a successful competition??

They would use those two teams as bench marks for every other club, something that our management itself has said that it is trying to bring that standard up to, yet gets vilified for their efforts.

What the NRL considers to be a successful club is a conversation for another day but they do hold the Roosters up as the standard. Who knows what would have happened in those years you mentioned were the Sharks not successful on field- I shudder to think.

man i cant wait for the conference system.

itll be 18 teams, 9 in sydney, then a few years later the eels, the souths the roosters will be in the national conference and the mud hill conference of sharks , dragons, etc will be cast aside into NSW cup.

I get that vibe too.

Like everything in life there’s a lot of grey in this. The boards done a mixed job; not excellent not terrible. I think the way they handled the bomber thing was abysmal but financially the clubs in safer waters.

BBB I’m not questioning if it’s true or not, there is no doubt we have not been the favourite child of the NRL. I do think we are on the right path now though and as a fan and having a link to the club all I can do is support them and follow along. Up up

Sorry to quote again,
Well if the NRL hold the Roosters up as the standard, arent we lucky to have employed someone who has been in that system for 20 years to run the team...

"- Was getting Fitzy worth blowing up this season? It was a crazy move. People are saying “oh coming 8th isn’t good enough” and yeah I get you but do you know how hard it is to jump from 14th and below into the 8 in this iteration of the NRL? Bloody hard. Is the damage worth it?"

Yes in my opinion. i dont think he was ever good enough.
i dont think john morris was ever winning a finals match regardless of roster

this year there are alot of duds in this side that need shipping out anyway.

All of this is spot on. Back to the OP... hopefully the player performance is seen for what it is at this stage which is the unwanted disgruntled players having a big sook.

Hold on it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

it is. but does it matter
its still covid times
its still kog the bog
it like..to me doesnt matter if we suck at the moment,

plus. we are not in the same comp as panthers, souths, melbourne etc

Ship out like 10 merkins, get some good players in. new coach, back at shark park eventually (i would move to sfs but thats a different conversation)

My point remains that it is extremely difficult to move up the ladder from the bottom 4 (which is where they are looking at finishing) into the 8in short space.
The brooms well and truly being pushed but when we lose Townsend, Woods, Dugan*, Moylan, Hamlin Uele and Nikora at seasons end who are the objectively better recruits?
Chambers is in for Dugan so that’s a tick.

Don’t forget that SJ could go and Wades potentially cooked.

There’s a lotta ways this could go bad. A bad year next year and the Sharks are officially shit again and everyone’s saying “I’d just kill to finish in the 8”.

I’m happy to be proved wrong and Moons is a gun but I just can’t see a way where the Sharks are significantly better than where they were 3 weeks ago.

Just on conferences if they brought in a Sydney conference wouldn't it make us safer? Crowds vs more Sydney teams would be higher in theory. Also the balance of the two conferences would mean if you took someone out you would have to put someone in which wouldn't make sense. You also couldn't have 8 in one conference and 9 in the other.

I like the idea of a conference system but it should be a combined finals series. The idea that we could never make the GF and face another Sydney club doesn't make sense.

Also it is pretty incredible that despite all of our self sabotage that the longest spell we have gone without a finals run has been what 3 years(2009-2011?) since the mid 90's. The dogs are coming up on 5. The Tigers haven't been in years.

IMO, you want to be in the conference with the strongest broadcast rating side.

The problem the sharks have been facing as I see it, is that their roster is getting worse in key areas.

Woods, Dugan, Moyza, Chad, Fifita all at once.

Having these guys in our team over the next couple years would see us at best stagnate, but likely go backward.

So I guess they are making calls to change that. No guarantees in sport but ya gotta risk it for the biscuit.

they have every big contract going. there will be enough money to spend on recruits. we are getting rid of duds.
we will buy the recruits and play a different way with a new coach.
players will want to come to play with fitzgibbon

Yeah we all agree the clean out needed to happen.... guess this just fast-tracks it . If players like BHU and Nikora are on the move while still under contract it opens up the possibility of player swaps for decent contracted players. We’ll get to see how good or otherwise Mooney is over this next little period.... I’m hoping the former. Still think WK.... Toby and Tracey should be priorities given their age then lock in the Bunny even for slight overs and build the ship from there.

I'd argue the Sydney conference would consistently out rate Gold Coast vs Melbourne for example.

I love the idea of two more teams though. Just have to spread the talent our properly. I'd prefer a WA side over a 2nd NZ team though.
