Ben Hornby disgraced the Number 7 Australian jersey in 2006, a legacy of the hopeless coaching tenure of Ricky Stuart.
Played in our last loss to GB on Australian soil.
Are you f**king serious???? I don't remember Hornby playing at 7. Braindead decision if so.
Oh my god...I've just seen that you were correct.

I thought the exact same thing as well when I saw Desert Qlder's post, Wizardman. I remember us losing that match to the Poms in the tri-nations that he made reference to (it was our first loss at home against them since the 1992 Ashes), but have absolutely no recollection of Hornby playing in that game, let alone starting at #7. Does anyone know why he replaced Thurston for that game?

Jamie Ainscough

As a Knights fan, I 100% agree with that. Could never stand him when he played for us, especially that arrogant, smirk look he used to give after scoring a try. Was made to look better than he really was feeding off cut-out passes from the Johns brothers, and was happy Knights management didn't re-new his contract largely off the back of a shocker he had against the Bulldogs in the second half of season '96.

Played one test for Australia: the last test of the mid-year 3-test series vs NZ in 1995, as a result of the SL-war when players from clubs alligned with SL were not selected (I miss those mid-year test series. 1995 was the last time they occurred. They should bring them back during the next TV rights deal). Heard an interesting story or rumour that in the heat of the moment after the Aussies hammered NZ, Ainscough gave his jersey to one of the fans in the grandstand after the game. If that is true, as Gussy boy would say, "Dear oh dear oh dear!" I bet he thinks about that incident every morning, given he never represented Australia again.

Maitua was one of the best back rowers in the comp when he got picked for Australia. Did his knee that match and was never as good again

Lol some of the people named in this thread were going good at the time, in hindsight they didn't deserve to be selected.

Quite a lot of players in that list. You can probably add players who played on one tour but never played a test:

Andrew Gee, Brad Godden. Gee toured PNG in 91 and as mentioned Godden played a warm up before the 92 WC final.

Bowen at the time was not registered as playing a test, cause the match against France which Australia won 52-30 was just deemed an International due to Australia using 5 interchange players.

This was later recognised by the ARL a year later.

Looking back, cant believe Villasanti was even picked for Australia. Career went down hill after that.
