Coach Jason Taylor
The Rabbitohs are keen to bounce back after last Saturday nights defeat at the hands of the
Cronulla Sharks in Gosford, however Head Coach Jason Taylor was pleased with the effort in
the opening trial and is looking for improvement in the Charity Shield.
Weve been building up to the beginning of the season, as a team, since November last year
and Saturdays game is the final piece of that preparation, Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason
Taylor said.
Despite the game not having two points on the line, it is still important for us to perform well in
our final hit out before we play the Roosters in round one.
Im looking forward to seeing our Kiwi contingent playing together, and also assessing how
our combinations are developing.
Rabbitohs co-captains David Kidwell and Peter Cusack are both excited about Saturday
nights match.
We are looking forward to this game because we know it is always a tough match and it will
give us the best guide on our progress leading into the first round, and every other round of the
premiership, Kidwell said.
Im looking forward to playing at Telstra Stadium in front of a big Rabbitohs crowd so I hope all
of the Members and fans come out to support the team and cheer us on.
Cusack said: This will be my third Charity Shield and out of any trial match I have played this
is the one that is most like a proper premiership match in terms of intensity and the physical
side of the game.
Well be out there giving it everything weve got, not only to win the game, but to prepare
ourselves for the season thats just around the corner.
The Rabbitohs have won the past two Charity Shield matches, winning 14-12 in last years
match, the first to be played at Telstra Stadium.
This year, the Rabbitohs proceeds from money raised from the match will go towards
supporting Souths Cares, the Rabbitohs new community initiative designed to support South
Sydney communities.
Three grades of Rugby League will be played on Saturday with the North Sydney Bears taking
on the St George Illawarra Dragons in Premier League at 6:05pm, and Shellharbour playing
Raymond Terrace in the opening match at 4:35pm. Gates will open at 4:30pm.
Good Luck Souths!
