We're screwed now. But if you honestly think he is up there with the best 7 or 5/8's then you belong in the loony bin. There's so much talk these days about how nothing separates a halfback to a five eight in the modern game so can we give the argument that he plays better in the 6 a rest. Mullens plain shit. If Hayne's a chance at playing 6 for NSW having played very few games there than to me that's saying something.

Mullo's biggest issue seemed to be communication. Where was the support for kicks. His def was still good. I think Mullo knows he's not at that standard yet. But, he looks good at club level. Keep at it Mullo.

I honestly think that this year Mullen has been one of the best 5/8's in the comp, definitely. He had one bad game for country..... Not as bad as the game carney had against us mind, or hayne today, a lot of good players have bad games.

I was at the game and my opinion is that he was on a hiding to none trying to make carney look good. from what i saw mullen was the only one hammering the pack vocally into position. carney did little talk or work.
Country also reaked of a poorly coached side. time to stand aside daley. difference between a nrl coach and a hack.

The media picks NSW side anyway. They are joke the lot of them.
NSW side i think they will pick based on the know it all sydney media.

1.Hayne
2.Aku
3.Jennings
4.J Morris
5.B Morris
6.Carney
7.Pearce
8.Weyman
9.Buderus
10.Gallen
11.Bird
12.Creagh
13.Lewis
14.Gidley
15.Leyroyd Lars
16.Merrin
17.Tamou

The side I think they should pick based purely on form to date and not reputation or previous honours. Incumbency is a myth and leads to lazy footballers.

1. B Morris (stunned me with this move but he is absolutely made for this position. Moltzen not sigining best thing to happen to this kid)
2. Uate (Best winger in the world)
3. Jennings (speed machine and makes his combo with Aku an absolute lethal weapon)
4. J Morris (In career best form)
5.McManus (Tough no nonsense winger. rarely makes a decisive error)
6.Carney (A genius. Lazy but has the x factor to win this series)
7.Wallace (best defensive halfback I have yet seen. Easily form half of the NRL next to Cronk)
8.Tamou (A massive tough unit)
9.Buderus (Greatest hooker the game has seen. Suck it Smith.)
10. Gallen (a machine and the toughest forward ever to play the game post 5 metre rule. Would make Brock Lesnar piss his pants.)
11.T Sims (most exciting talent in the game and IMO better than SBW at the same age)
12.Scott (Origin to the bone)
13.Bird (best Titan week in week out)
14. Lewis (Origin in a nutshell)
15.Weyman (Metre chewing robot)
16.TLL (Explosive forward who can add much neded go forward when game is tight)
17. Woods (Easily Tigers best player this season and a standout talent)

Sorry but for me Gids time has come and gone at rep level. He offers good dummy half running at origin level but that is about all. His emotions always get the better of him. We need an explosive player and Lewis is exactly that.

To be honest showstopper i like the look of your 'media picked' side better (assuming Hayne is fit). Perhaps with Sims in for Creagh though. Both decent sides. Lewis should start and Jimmy isn't the 2nd best NSW winger imo.

Out of the players on sunday i thought Hoffman looked really good. He had Melb belted into him. Ran good lines all night and jumped on any lose balls like he was possessed.

I don't want to see Ryan Hoffman back at rep level. Greg Bird surprised me. You've never seen a bloke ham it up so much to get a penalty when someone goes near his face, but by gee he worked hard and made good metres yesterday.

Also Showstopper, Pete Wallace is a good defender, but don't discount Mitch Pearce in that regard. On more than one occasion in Origin he has stood up and pole-axed Queenslanders that continued to run at him. Im comfortable with him or Wallace there. James Maloney was a good defender until 2 weeks ago as well, but after that Raiders game, he is apparently a liability.

Anyway, back to the thread topic, Mullen was sh*t yesterday. That about covers it.

i missed the game, heard it was horrible, heard he went shit. i heard lots of players went shit. sounds to me like everyone was too nervous about their own performances and impressing for origin, and not focusing on the job at hand.

i could rewatch the game to give you more valuable input, but i don't think i want to sit through the rugby league equivilent of a dentist appointment. if Mullen isn't a rep player, he's not a rep player. whatever, i don't care anymore, he's a bloody great 5/8th for us. these days i'm more interested in telling people who think he should be dropped to reserve grade every time he has a bit of a down game how f**king geniused they are.

my primary concern is that he doesn't go into his shell for the next 3 months whilst origin is on.

also Bird having a big game doesn't surprise me. the guy is a big game player, more or less the inverse of Mullen.

I agree that Pearce is a good defender however he was less that effective in last year's origin series. He was 'run over' quite a few times. I don't believe he was at his defensive best at all in Origin last year. Wallace will be unlucky to miss out on the 7 jumper this year.

I think the concern is that when he is required to stand up and perform in big games, he fails. Is this what we can expect in finals football and if and when we make a grandfinal? It's not about whether he is a rep player or not. He can't deal with pressure or expectations. To be honest 5 + years is f**king long wait.

I think Mullo's chances of ever playing rep stuff will come through a couple of consistent seasons under Bennett and a bit of good luck in regards to who else is running around (or not) at origin time. Personally, I don't think he'll be a rep 5/8 but that's fine.

If he can continue to build on what he has done so far this year and the team makes the eight, he'll get a good shot at some finals games with a solid team around him and he'll get the chance to put the doubters to rest with some big performances (I hope).

A quick synopsis on Mullos game if you're interested:

- Spent half the game fighting Bird for ball at 1st receiver
- When he did get the ball 1st he looked to be fighting his instinct to run and as a result pushed too many passes or put in ineffectual kicks, except on one occasion where he put in a nice grubber for a repeat set.
- Was well outplayed by Pearce

Tinkler's next big signing should be one A Johns..

The intention was for Mullen to take over Johns with Johns being a mentor figure..

The problem was the Knights couldn't afford Johns (who perhaps should have remembered who gave him his status) so Johns went and accepted better coin from richer clubs..

Now is a different story..HSG is bringing back all these 'old boys' and Hunter juniors except - so far - one..

If he's not available this year, then HSG should seriously think about bringing back Andrew Johns for 2013, so Mullo can bring out those excercise books and update them..
