Mundine fight

Good on him. I doubted whether he would ever get the title he said he would but I have to say I was impressed with his attitude the two times I saw him on the footy show. If only he could keep himself down on earth all the time.

Cheers El...

So what happens when you win 3 belts?

How many organisations are there? The reason I'm asking is that I am working on a boxing website at the moment and I'm looking for content. Wanna help out El? ;-)

There's 3 main belts being the WBA, WBC and IBF.

Tszyu, Hopkins and Tarver hold 3 belts.

The champs in Mundine's division are Ottke (IBF and WBA) and Beyer (WBC)

The WBA have only had this bullshit super champion crap for about two years.

Thank from me too ElDuque.

I feel better now :D

WBA Bullshit Super Champion

Here's more on the 'super' champion

WBA SUPER CHAMPIONSHIPS

Here's an excerpt from a Max Kellerman article here which is good

"Diobelys Hurtado knocked out Randall Bailey for the WBA junior welterweight belt. Hurtado is now the WBA junior welterweight champion. Kostya Tszyu, who was the WBC belt holder, stopped Sharmba Mitchell, who held the WBC belt. Tszyu therefore became the WBA junior welterweight super champion. So if I were to try to identify the WBA junior welterweight champion to a casual sports fan, who exactly would I identify?

If the answer to that question according to the WBA's logic is "Diobelys Hurtado," then what exactly, according to the WBA, does the distinction "champion" mean? Certainly not "the fighter who proved himself the best at his weight," nor "the fighter who beat the man who was the champion." No, according to the logic of the WBA, to be a champion of a weight class is to win a fight that establishes you as the second-best fighter in the division. Idiotic."

In fairness to Mundine though, many people considered Echols as the best in the world. Most thought he was better than Ottke and Beyer so the title is not without merit despite the dodgy nature of the title.

In fact, the title is probably as legitimate as the one by lester Ellis and arguably even Jeff Fenech's first crown. Both of these were the lightly regarded IBF crowns at the time.

ElDuque,

Wasn't this a vacant belt?

Yes, the WBA made this title vacant once Sven Ottke defeated Byron Mitchell for the real WBA world title. Ottke then became the WBA 'super' champion

It's a bloody joke. Especially seeing casual boxing fans have no idea how it works and think this title is the fair dinkum ridgy didge world champion one.

all mundane is is a claytons chumpion..... still avoiding anyone that can actually fight....

and now he thinks hes a champ...he wont fight anyone for a long time...as he knows he will lose to a real fighter.....

mundane is a noone and always will be..we dont want him at souths though so he can try another sport

Mundine just fought the most dangerous man in the WBA and won - he will have to defend his title as it is mandatory no matter who it is as long as they are the number 1 contender.

I don't think he would go to souths anyway - whats the point he could earn more by getting belted in boxing than being belted playing for souths

Ummm if Echols is the most dangerous man in the WBA why did Mundine lose to Ottke??

Remember that Ottke is the champ.

Ottke is a chump not a champ he is over the hill and will lose his title soon - and in the terms of dangerous i meant punching power and ability.

I'm not saying he hasn't earned what he has got out of boxing but he should retire a winner rather then go out a loser, and i'm not doubting that he knocked Mundine out by a lucky punch - just face it Ottke hasn't knocked out to many people so it must be considered lucky.

and if i remeber right Mundine easily took a bigger hit on his chin from Echols but didn't drop - so once again it proves that it was a lucky punch.

You are still angry because you are a moderator in a boxing froum who doesn't know his facts - as i proved in another topic

Its not stupidity it common sense something that you haven't got, i'll explain it for you:

1. Ottke hasn't beat many fighter's by way of KO

2. Ottke is considered one of the lightest punchers in the super-middleweight division, by a lot of fighters and boxing guru's

3. Therefore when he knocked out Mundine it could be considered as a lucky punch and more like a king hit you'd find down the local pub if you stir up one of the locals.

4. Mundine has proven he can take shots to his chin without going down, against Soliman and recently by Echols - who is considered the most dangerous puncher in the WBA by many fighters and boxing guru's.

And you think that chain of thought is stupid ask many boxing greats or read there interviews such as:

"Three days ago the world's greatest fight trainer, 82-year-old Angelo Dundee, mentor of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, said from his office in Hollywood, Florida that Mundine could defy the odds if he ran for 12 rounds. He was right.

Mundine must have read every word of his fight plan. He let his feet do the work on his way to a magnificent triumph.

Echols landed a peach of a right hand right on Mundine's chin and the Australian just pursed his lips as though blowing a kiss
".

Thats not enough proof for you El Duque, stooping low to insult my intelligence and age. Are you feeling a bit

It always a laugh watching how obsessed some of the anti-Mundine crowd are.
I just wonder what the reaction would have been if Echols had of won.
Lets hazard a guess... Echols would be a champ and Mundine would have got what he deserved.

But Mundine wins and suddenly he's a cat. What does that make Echols? :?

Ottke has the weakest punch in the division, and that put mundine out cold. What does that say for mundines chin?
